This means that it counts a toughness 4 normally, but only toughness three for instant death (when the strength is double the toughness)

Hope that helps

Or to put it differently, they would normally be toughness 3 (and they still count as toughness 3 for instant death purposes), but the bike makes them count as toughness 4 against regular weapons.

Another quick question, would the weapon that could instant-kill it wound based on the modifed toughness, or the base toughness? I.e., would a T 3(5) creature be wounded by a 2+ or 3+ by an S6 weapon?

Say I shoot Tau plasma at an Eldar bike commander with two wounds.

Str 6 plasma, biker with hypothetical toughness of 3(5).

I would need 3+ to wound, but I would instakill him.

Ah thanks, I was never totally clear on that - the example I was thinking of was a Krootox, but that works just as well.

The only exception is the ever buggy Dark Eldar Jetbike. It actually does increase your toughness up a point.

Slap one on a humunculi and only strength 10 auto kill you.

Yet another reason the Krootox blows.

Hmm, lets see. According to the DE codex, 2nd version, the reaver jetbike acts as a normal jetbike, and a hemonculus has toughness 4.

According to the rulebook, 4th ed, Jetbikes increase toughness by 1, but not for instant death purposes.

So instant death from 8, 9 or 10.

The faq also specifically says that it increases the riders toughness by +1 and strength by +1, without mentioning of the toughness boost as aesthetic. Let's also not forget that the DE jetbike can turbo boost, fail to move 18, and claim an invulnerable save in the next turns close combat phase.
