Is it me? or do other people beleive that troop heavy armies are one of the hardest armies to face? i just find it incredible the amount of people who will only use the bear minimum of troops. they are the best value units in the game! does anyone else have the same view? even if you dont, id like to hear what view you have

It depends upon the troops themselves, if it's a hard hitting unit like Khorne Berserkers, then you don't need any more troops to fore-fill that requirement.
Then again, there are those armies that if you take more then the minimum, then you'll be weakened too much in other areas (Iyenden or Deathwing are examples of this) |

I say it time and time again its a mix.....
If you have alot of troops chances are the enemy has to pick its targets carefully, but if you only have a handfull of squads whenever you loose one it could be devastating. I am of the mind to try for medium sized armies and keep your troops simple dont go all crazy on upgrading something that just makes it another body bag coming off the field.... |

Another thing, at the end of the day, it's not what you take, it's how effective you use them.

Not necessarily. Composition can influence the outcome of a battle greatly; it would be as much a mistake to disregard composition as a factor as it would be to disregard tactcs. And in many ways, the two are connected; your playing style often dictates which army you play, and the units you bring to the table influence what tactics you use with them.

Well that goes without saying but I think every army you can have a larger or smaller force. Obviously if you play Tau or Nids, your gonna have a big sized group/army. Where if you play someone like SM or Eldar you might have a smaller size force to choose from. I think that typically if you have used your points right your army should be fairly large size. Pouring all your points into a few models rarely gives you the best outcome. If the enemy can pour enough shots into these models he/she is bound to get a lucky shot in and really ruin your battle plan.

I think it works well, I now have a force that is small, easy to manage and can take on most anybody. But like all things in warhammer it's a trade off. I can kick the c*** out of SM, orcs, other tau, Chaos, IG but my only real problems are against nids and eldar. Edit: don't swear (or at least censor yourself lol) |

I think numbers pays off big time. With a smaller force, your units/characters are often more powerful, but that just makes ther loss harder to deal with. I find that with my eldar lists I create every now and then, hell, any army really, i sumtimes see how many hard hitting units i can have in an army, so they end up being really small, they look good on paper, but they jsut dont perform the way i want them to on the battle feild. it could also just be that my tactics suck compared to my list making...altho the two generally go hand in hand...

Well my Khorne army is very small (some would say too small), but I find that i cope very well with loses, especially since the way I designed my troops that basically anything can deal with what I want them to deal with. If i lose a squad, then any squads nearby can deal with their intended target.
The only real problem I have is with Land raiders and other heavy armour. But then again, if I get my chosen into combat with them, their dun for. My Eldar in retrospect, is a medium force and I play them equally well. |
