Default Creature Feature

In an old white dwarf issue (North American issue 291)
there was an article which let you make your own 40k creature with balanced rules and everything, along with rules for creatures GW made up (eg. Chiaro Ash croakers, the cudbear and more). Anyone who makes up one of these creatures post it here with the stats and a pic. if you have one. I'll give you an example.
Here it is, my personal creature. hope you like it.
Dal'yth steel bird
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Dal'yth Steel bird was discovered by the Tau on the planet Dal'yth. Steel birds are extremely territorial and
will not run away when trying to protect their nesting grounds. The bird's name comes from the unusual front
claws, which are almost as sharp as steel.

Dal"yth steel bird
____________ Pts _Ws_Bs_S_T_W_I_A_Ld_Sv_
steel bird------ 22-- 5----0-- 4--3--1- 5-2-- 10--6+

Packs: 1pack of steel birds can be taken as a neutral force in a fight of 1000 pts or more. If taken this way they will be controlled by a third player who may move them and assault as normal.
Packs number 3-5 birds.

Special rules

Rending: All steel birds have razor sharp claws. Therefore, all
attacks made by them are rending.

Winged: All steel birds have wings and therefore move as if they were equipped with a jump pack.

I hate the imagery of Tau using these as steeds, let alone as an element of their army.

Just two problems I can see.
One is rending close combat attacks in a Tau army. I see this as a way to give Tau some kick in close combat, which they are designed not to do.

Second is Ld 10 on a bird.

All other problems aside, the likelihood of training giving the bird extra strength and wounds is low at the very best.
It would make more sense to make the standard bird WS 3 with 1 attack and upgrade it to WS 5 with 2 attacks if it is trained.

Get rid of the Ld 10, birds fly away at any sudden movement. ;D

Try this special rule:

The Early Bird Gets the Worm
The Steel Bird may infiltrate, or deepstrike if kept in reserve.

It looks cool, but yeah i cant see it being used with Tau.

I have created a few creatures personally. And this looks okay bar the LD. Mine will be posted up when i finish off the last one.

(ps: why is this in general 40k?)

Now that I think about it the leadership is a bit high.
But I only made it using creature feature and it only took 10 minutes so I will revise it and probably take out of the tau training thing. Oh when I said they can be taken as a neutral force I meant they move randomly and attack randomly.
Bye the way, I put it in general 40k because I meant this to be a place where people put there own creatures they don't have to be tau or any other force.

Ah, perhaps House rules would be better in future.
