Default game start and reserves

OK, here is my problem: I am playing BA, and have been thinking about this; if you only take drop pods and other deep striking units, and put them in reserves, make drop pod assault in first turn, is it then legal?

Don't see why not, unless Drop Pods cannot come in first turn.

Why would it not be? There are plenty of reserve-only armies where Drop Pods are their main method of getting on the board. Just follow the rules for Drop Pod Assault! Half of your Pods have to make a turn 1 Deep Strike, and the other half go in reserve.

it just because i have seen that if you lose all your unit on the board, then all of them in reserves die, but I could have seen wrong.

Nope. As long as the game hasn't ended following the normal rules, it hasn't ended. :P

Necrons lose their reserves if the monolith dies, as they can only enter from reserves through the monolith portal. Only example I know of.

Well, that only applies to units that you have designated as "in reserve and will come onto the board through the monolith" as per the Necron FAQ

Tyranids can do this as well and have everything start in reserve with no drop pod assault on the first turn.

Unless you've got a tank in reserve which enters tank shocking the unit border guarding, but most people don't put tanks in reserve.

Tau also play a ninja tau setup having all their suits in reserve.
