Default Musings on the UK Meetup

Last weekend, some of our UK based members met up and had a few games together and here is my take on the proceedings.

Meeting the "hotel mates" was interesting . By hotel mates, I mean that me, SILK, Rafe and Del were all staying in the same hotel (heck, me, Rafe and Del were in the same room :shifty. Turning up on the Saturday and attempting to find all the other members who were attending was... interesting and kind of wierd. Walking up to "complete" strangers and asking if they were from TO was a new experience for me lol.

The games were immensely fun (except that game with Rafe and I tried to outshoot his Tau with Dark Eldar Warriors :shifty.

The second mega-battle with Members V. Mods devolved around turn 5 as the Orks opened fire on their allies and everyone turned on everyone else ;D (by which time, the members had little left that could put up much resistence).

It was nice to have the Dark Eldar out and about, running around and killing stuff (and then getting shot up a turn after) and Rafe said he had never seen so much Dark Eldar before which was kind of amusing.

A few points for next year:
A) We need a banner for next years meetup. A nice, simple, to the point and easily seen and recognisable banner so that everyone who comes can see where the gathering will be.
B) Mobile numbers for all the members going. Having everyone's numbers makes it easier to arrange when and where and lets people contact others to find out where they are and to let everyone know they're going to be late etc.
C) TO T-Shirts. See point A .
D) Some pre-created scenarios. It would be nice for next year to have a few custom scenarios to play, maybe even using special units that people intend to bring and finding a way to incorperate them without unbalancing the game.
E) Perhaps booking more rooms in the hotel so that we have a group of TOer's staying together so they can talk shop and socialise etc
F) Never trust the Orks...
G) Bring a ball gag for SILK...

I'll definitely try to attend next year, and, yes, a T-Shirt would A make a good recognition sign and B an excellent souvenir.

Maybe we should set one of our art wizkids on it ^^

All we need to do then is print the art on those fancy thingies and iron it on black or white shirts... hot plastic, searing iron, clumsy geek fingers... nothing can possibly go wrong!

I wasn't there =P

In fact, I was playing guitar on the streets in the city with a guy I'd just met who looked like Rafe, it was bizarre. We made forty quid. Shazam.

Basically second what FT says. Meetup was hard due to not fully knowing what people look like, however we managed and got some awesome games in. Been a long time since I enjoyed 40k, so I am glad I went.

Will post pics tomorrow, not got the cable on me at the mo.
