Default Codices Hidden Jokes

If you've ever seen the movie Trainspotting, recall the scene in the park, when Sickboy and Rent are hidden in the bushes with an air rifle.

Then read the fluff story on page three of the codex, about half way down in the left column.

The GW guys obviously hid a line from the movie in this piece of Tau fluff.

Are there anymore jokes like this hidden in the GW official "stuff"?

(Mods, if this isn't the right place for such a thing, please direct me to the proper board.)

This would be better suited in the General 40k board as it really involves all codicies and GW offical 'stuff'.

But i shall have to check that one out.

But there are others yes.
Characters for instance, a big one is Sly Marbo.
Marbo is Rambo jumbled.
Sly is Sylvester Stallones nickname.
stallone played Rambo

Yes, sure look at the names:

Shovah is either glauld, or klingon for traitor.

primarch names are hilarious:
sanguinius. sanguine= latin for blood
dorn=irish for fist. who does dorn lead? imperial fists. and those bloosy english GWers paint the ones with the irish link as yellow! and yellow is the colour of cowards!i will never forgive them!
corax=latin for raven if i remember correctly
vulkan=god of the forge in greek/roman mythology i think
khan-obvious reference to genghis khan, and the mongol/white scar link is apparent
ferrus manus is latin for iron hand (ferrous=iron)
alpha legion=contradiction. alpha is the greek first letter, but in the 40k context, he comes last
Russ-ancient viking king=russia was named after him IIRC
Lion'el Johnson= lionel johnson wrote a poem called the "dark angel" about homosexuality.

COmmisar Gaunt= Bernard Cornell's Sharpe in space

GW really has no shame.....

None can step before them, they are the first, proud in their strength and jealous of their renown. Through the storms of the warp they come, upon the very tides of terror, but of such dangers they are uncaring. They are the Space Wolves, the Undefeated, the bane of the Emperor's foes."

And then there are the names which they keep tacking onto Lizardmen:
Copaketl (Copper Kettle)
wadyaluquinat (what ya lookin at)

Anybody remember the original brettoninans?

All I'm going to say is that even games designers must end up staring at the wall for a bit then reaching for a dictionary.

Honestly, although they have probably have little shame, I think it's rather clever on their part. I'm sure it didn't take them a great deal of time to come up with their cleverness (as it were), but it is cool their attention to detail and consistency, I think.

And the Irish and Scots will yet overrun the English... ;D
