Like the name states, what do others call your minis? I have had my tau army called dolls, and action figures. How about you guys?

The best I have had so far was "Sweet, you've painted this one to look like Boba Fett".

I've had a few guys look at them.
"You paint them? Wow, that's cool... then what do you do? Play games?" *chuckles*
Sometimes
"So do those skeletons fight the guys with guns?"
But once
"Ninja Turtle models! No? Space Marines? But why do they look like Ninja Turtles?"

My girlfriend calls them "My model dolls"...but she just does that to bug me... :
The worst thing I've had my mini's called is "Uber Suckie Universe Toys"...I later fed the guy a kindey shot and kindly corrected him.

I believe that is the most common response people get... : Then I look at their hobbies and go "Oh. Model Planes? You Paint them? Wow, that's cool...then what do you do? Play Games? No? Then what's the point of painting them if they are just going to sit there?" ;D

The idea of painting them is to make them look good so you can showcase them, it's a common thing to do with hobbies and it's called collecting, which also applys to Warhammer 40k. After all some people are interested in the models themselves instead of the actual game.

Anyway one thing which I find models are usually called are "Toy Soldiers", along the lines of "Wow, I like your toy soldiers!" - said in a sarcastic tone of course. Which leads to the next question, "So why aren't they green?".

True enough...but I still give my friend a hard time that my models are actually "usefull" while his cars sit on the shelf...I really want to make up a high-speed driving game and race them, but to no avail...

My best friend Deirdre refers to 40k as "chess with rulers and dice". Most non 40k people who see my models, and they are generally (no boasting) of a very high standard compliment me on them. considering i've spent upwards of 5 hours on some, its appreciated. I've never had the "chuckles" side of it. I just don't hang with that crowd.

They are the grey warriors, ashen like the wolf, whose greatest joy is to hear the clamour of steel amidst the din of war. None can step before them, they are the first, proud in their strength and jealous of their renown. Through the storms of the warp they come, upon the very tides of terror, but of such dangers they are uncaring. They are the Space Wolves, the Undefeated, the bane of the Emperor's foes."
