Default Designating Squads/Teams/Mobs/etc

Ok, so I have a question
How do you guys tell your squads apart?
I imagine that during intense melee activity or densely packed terrain, it would be difficult to tell your guys apart. My necron friend doesn't do anything, he just grabs guys out of his box and piles them into squads and avoids getting them too close.
Personally, i paint the rims of my soldiers bases different colours, red, blue, gold, green, and purple for my firewarriors, and i'm working on a scheme for my suits.
What are your personal methods?

Well, since my Fire Warriors are in different transports at all times, I don't worry about it. The Suits I have are all configured differently, and I'm beginning to indicate on the Broads which one is which.

When you are putting them on the table, do you pay attention to which model goes into which team?

I try to avoid melee at all possible if tau, but, I think I have a solution.

Color the bases.

One squad mithril silver, one leave black, one bronze?

or you can make banners, or you can leave a marking on the base.

For me its the amount of lines i do for the sept markings, 1 for 1st squad, 2 for 2nd, so on and so forth.

Only the Shas'ui. I have those designated by the fact they're helmetless compared to everyone else.

For my necrons on the under side of each base they are a different colour but they look normal from the top. In frenzied combats with multiple combats i find it easy to keep track.

I normally remember how many boyz from each squad go into da fight and then remove casualties- when i win the combat and consolidate i re-form my boyz mobz (if you get the idea)

With the right color clashes, mithril silver bases are shiny and make great eye catchers. That and they confuse my opponents at times
