I really like the concept of taking someone on up close and personal and would like to know which race or space marine chapter would b the most affective in close combat or are trynids and orcs the ultimate two?

Space wolves, Blood angels, Black Templar, Orks, Tyranids, Chaos Marines, Space Marines,Daemon Hunters, Daemons, Dark Eldar and Eldar are all armies which can be proficient in close combat. There is no 'best' army for it though, all have their strengths and weaknesses.

Khorne, If you want an army of pure CC Khorne is the way to go. I will not go as far to say they are the best Close Combat army, but I think they are the easiest for a new player to use (I dont actually know if your new I am just assuming)
To delve further Khorne to me are excellent in CC they have WS 5 allowing them to out perform most others in To Hit rolls, they have lots of attacks and if you charge they are all at Strength 5. Obviously the most important thing with any CC Army is getting the charge. With Khorne you will rely on Rhinos to drive you through enemy fire so that you can bloody them up with your chainswords. Also with playing Khorne you have the option to throw Obliterators into your army which are very useful Longrange support units who are very tough nuts to crack. This allows you to have Obliterators as your Anti-Tank and annoyance units. You will need to start 1 Chaos marines Codex 2 boxes of Beserkers 2 Obliterators 1 Lord (however you can most likely convert one from the 24 you will have from the 2 boxes) 2 Rhinos maybe 3 You then run 2 squads of 8 Beserkers in Rhinos and 1 squad of 7 with Lord in Rhino The Obliterators give cover fire, you would also throw Combi Meltas on both rhinos for extra anti tank insurance, this allows you to not have to rely on the Beserkers for anti tank, which I hate since Power Weapons are better than Power fists, on Beserkers in my opinion. So all in all I think Khorne is the path to CC that you should go with, ( I would also suggest Grey Knights, but thier expensive, and Space Wolves are old.) |

Sorry necron god, but we don't really allow these "what army is the best at X?" threads as they usually don't go very far. There are several armies that excel at CC, but getting a consensus on a forum of thousands of members is not likely.
