as you probably read from the title i have a question regarding assaulting with say a troop of imperial guards armed with lasguns while having flamers in there . how do i go from there to determining if they are eligible to assault . usualy i go by reasoning that the majority of the weapons are rapid fire which cant assault after fire due to the majority of the squads weapon type not being able to .
was it the right way to do it ? . |

Thats how we do it in my gaming group and we presume its the right way (hopefully)
The flamer is the type of weapon that can be fired and still permits a charge. SO if you shoot the flamer you can charge afterwards The lasguns are different, you can't charge after shooting with them. Remember that you can choose to shoot only the flamer and charge afterwards

That may be a little difficulte to comprehend so...
If you want to assault, you may fire your Pistol/Assault weapons. However, if you fire a rapid fire weapon, you cannot assault. You may or may not fire a weapon if you wish. |

just dont rapid fire if you want to assault, or shoot rapid fire weapons period if you want to assault...
frankly, just use assault weapons. >

im aware, just letting him know. Though often in cases, shooting would be much better.

Because people still make this mistake, I want to emphasise it;
THERE IS NO WAY FOR NORMAL UNITS TO FIRE RAPID FIRE WEAPONS AND STILL CHARGE! Anyone who tells you otherwise is wrong. A lot of people claim that if you only fire "one shot" you can still charge. This is not true; it's is a corruption of a 3rd Edition rule, where Rapid Fire meant 1 shot up to 12" when moving. In 3rd Edition, you could fire a Rapid Fire weapon and still charge. Even experienced players seem to cling to this fallacy. Make sure you don't get caught out.

It really annoys me when it's people who should a) know better, and b) are teaching new players you can do it.
