Default Would this be fun or just annoying?

Hey guys, I've been tossing around an idea I had a while ago to kinda make the average battle possibly more exciting and suprising.

So the issue I've always had with deepstrike and infiltrate, is that the enemy always knows that they are going to appear, because they will have seen your list (especially in tourneys) and know that if they aren't on the board, they are deepstriking or coming in from reserves. I was wondering, if for friendly games, it would be fun to simply not put those deepstriking models on the list (still include point cost of course!) and have them show up without telling your opponent! Obviously this would be disclosed beforehand so that both players would be aware of it, I just think it might add some suprise rather than... Oh look, it's those droppod tourmies that finally made their reserves roll, I never would have expected them to show up...

Tell me what you guys think, be honest, is this just a dumb idea, or could it actually make things interesting?

Thanks!
-RS

Anyone, who'd let you run this house rule is likely to know what you're going to do anyways. :P

If you can find a stranger, more power to you. I imagine it would be surprisingly refreshing.

Haha yea goodpoint, but I still might try it out haha .

I'm just worried a stranger might just get angry, rather than take it in good humor, what do you think?

Against friends in a friendly game it sounds great - I wouldn't try using against 'that' player in the GW store that always has to win though, or a rules lawyer in a competitive game.

I'm open to playing 40K in different ways, but I have noticed that I'm not in the majority of players (it seems), based on quite a few posts on TO. Usually the first thought is one of distrust, "How are they getting an advantage by using these rules, how am I getting hurt, etc."

I encourage an open mind of changing the game o suit the players though.
It can still be surprising for friends (DS units they wouldn't expect), use that "known" knowledge against them. Play the meta game a little.

It would make a nice interesting change and being honest more realistic of the actual capabilities of drop pods, teleports and other deep strike toys. You wouldn't know exactly what was coming until it happened. Becomes more of a challenge for you to counter, especially when both sides have the same abilities.

I would say I would play, more fun and more realism.

Even more realistic is deciding where the DS'ers will go before the game is set up!

Actually, the way me and my opponents have always played is we do not disclose our lists to eachother before the game starts. Our lists are secret, as are our choices of what to deepstrike or outflank with (though we must still state the number of units that are in reserves). At the END of the game, we are allowed to view eachother's lists, ensuring no foul play was used.

I was unaware that most people played differently.

LOL, that is a FANTASTIC idea. I am so doing that next time I play with Farsight and his 7 samurai.
