Default new figure question

If new models get released, can I still play with my old ones or do I have to replace them?

Just wondering as I have started to collect tau and some new models may be released in a bit.

Thanks in advance

No there is not really a rule for that. First the old models may still be valid with gear and things. It matters that people still recognize it for what it is though. I think that would be stupid but some armies still have old models and look awesome. However if you were doing it to gain an advantage with True line of sight it might be a problem.

Go ahead and use the old models. I use the XV-15s instead of the XV25s. I just don't like the look of the new stealths.

ok thanks. Was just wondering as I don't want to spend money on an army that I can't use.

I like older models more than newer ones. For example I refuse to ever use plastic SoB

I'd start sisters in a heartbeat if they got plastic models personally...

Any models can be used to represent something, the only solid rule is that the majority of the pieces are from GW

I have seen someone use Posessed Tau to count as Kroot before.

I bought a bunch of older grots(from the some old edition) off ebay, why? because their still Grotz and they were also cheaper!($12 for 4 grots? come on! I'd rather buy a bunch of WF Goblins and convert them)

A little off topic, but it does look like plastic grots will arrive in the near future.

Go ahead and use the older models. There's nothing to say you can't. If the model has changed considerably, you may want to mention to your opponent that you are using older models. But otherwise, there should be a problem.

"older" models are fun, i like the old dread someone in my group has, its just about the same sixe as a termie :P

if someone argues it with you in a normal game, leave and dont play with them for a bit. in a tournament tell them its mostly GW, if they keep it up ask a judge "a model has to be mostly GW, right?" he will say yes, then you say "so my older models, made by GW X years ago are legal, right?" they will have to answer yes to that one because they said yes to the first one
