Default Concerning Dedicated Transports and Dawn of War deployment.

Lately I've encountered a peculiar notion from a friend (Who is apparently able to judge tournaments as necessary) who claims that in the Dawn of War deployment type, dedicated transports count for the number of Troops units deployed.

Normally it is 1 HQ unit, and 2 Troop choices that must be deployed. Thats fine. However, what he is saying is that if a troop choice has a dedicated transport, that the transport counts as the second choice to be set on the board. So instead of 1 HQ, and 2 Troops down, it'd be 1 HQ, 1 Troop choice, and 1 Dedicated transport.

Of course, I denounce this is a silly notion, and cannot find this anywhere in the rules, and the only spot he can point out is a badly written example regarding Orks deploying in the Dawn of War setup with a trukk, but it is this very example that he absolutely insists on. Im not sure if he is simply that hard headed to the concept, or is actually trying to be a prick with the rules, but I thought I'd see what you people here have to say, just to get the story set and straight.

but you don't even need to deploy 2 troops units do you?

page 93:

"deploy up to 2 troops units and 1 HQ"

"a player has a maximum of 2 troops units and 1 HQ"

Yes transports count. It sort of stops things like two rhinos rushing towards one unsupported unit of troops and then unloading 20 marines and rapid firing which could get annoying. In the end your opponent could only deploy one transport if he has the Independent character joining in it.

You can deploy up to 1 HQ and 2 Troops. So, either everthing else comes in your Movement phase and/or Reserves. But remember to declare

Hmm, well guess its always a good idea to get others to help corroborate, or else it would never get resolved around my area.

While it sucks a bit for myself, seeing a couple points here it does make a bit of sense. This also stops me from having to deal with 20 plague marines on top of a lash prince, only 10 marines instead :P Also helps since the guy who pointed this out plays chaos daemons, so thats fewer targets turn 1.

Thanks for clarifying.

This is sorta related. Since a Troop Choice consisting of the unit themselves and their Transport which counts for 2 Troop Choice, how about Imperial Guard's Infantry Platoon which can consist up to 6 separate units?

OMG, the Imperial Guard could have up to 115 models on the board. (Troop selection 1: Infantry Platoon= 5 Squads [10 models] + 1 Command Squad [5 Models] A total of 55 models)
