Default Illogical Point-Blank Shooting

Yeah, me and CV were having a VASSAL game when this came up:

Any explanation for this?

I fail to see the problem. Every template weapon scatter in 5th ed.

Clearly the suits(or is it dreadnaught) was targeted by a template weapon which scattered into nothingness.

All is good here from what I can see.

I don't think hes complaining about the rules, just that it would be all but impossible for the model to have aimed at something ahead an the shell landed behind, really strong wind, or drunken gunner is my guess. what would be physically impossible would be a vindicator landing a shell behind its self since its gun has a 90 degree arc and only very limited vertical movement, yet in a game its possible for a vindicator to land a shell several " behind its self.

Oh, yes. Clearly the gunner missed a 10-feet tall bloated armored giant who's within point blank range and rolls a 4 on his Roll to Hit.

I see the problem - the first person to reply clearly wasn't paying attention to the thread :

Its weird, he fired point blank at the tank, and the rocket spiralled off past it, and whumped the ground.

Of course, assuming I've read right this time, I wanna know what the hell someone was doing firing a frag missile at a tank..... :shifty:

Oh, I see. For some reason I thought it was the tank firing.

Yeah, in that case I would guess the Plasma just misfired or glanced off the side.

It's not a Frag missile - it's a Plasma Cannon, as Zenai said in the post above you. Although I thought it was the tank firing at the guy and missing at first, as opposed to the other way around. Personally, although it seems illogical, I have no problem with this sort of thing - it's weird little moments like this that make the game interesting imo. Plus if everyone automatically hit at point-blank range it would rather mess up the balance - also, stuff like this represents random chance events like, say, something momentarily distracting the guy while he makes his shot, the shooter sneezing, the shooter tripping over - all kinds of stuff. Just because it's point-blank doesn't mean it will his 100 per cent of the time, especially in a furious and confusing close-quarters firefight.
