Default Characters and Leadership Tests

I wonder if you could help me out with a leadership test question? I looked through the rule book but could find an answer.

My Tau commander had joined a unit of three battlesuits and all three suits were killed from shooting. Now the the commander reverts back to being an independent character but does he still need to take a leadership test from taking over 25% casualties?

I'd appreciate a page number in the book that covers this situation because I missed it.

EDIT: The way I see it the squad my commander was with took 100% casualties and as the commander is now an IC he took 0% casualties and doesn't need to take a test.

I don't think you'll find a page that specifically outlines your example, however once an IC joins a unit he is part of that unit and all that entails. In your example, once you finish the round and determine morale, he's then on his own but he would be testing casualties because he was a part of the unit during that shooting phase.

The only time an IC can leave a unit is during the movement phase. And with that the IC will take a morale test even if he is the last of a squad that just took over 25% casualties.

Until your next movement phase, he is still considered a member of the squad, which has taken 75% casualties. He does have to roll morale.

If he fails it, he still falls back, but on the next movement phase he is an Independent Character and able to roll to regroup. He doesn't count as below half strength.
