Default Wound Allocation Question

Yes I know someone has done a wonderful good describing how wounds are allocated. But this is a situation that I don't think was covered.

A tact squad has three models left.

1. Sargent w/Plasma Pistol
2. Marine w/Plasma Gun
3. Marine w/Plasma Cannon

This squad gets shot and the wounds are as follows
3 AP2 wounds (from Rending Attacks)
6 AP5 wounds from Bolter shots

Assuming all of the Bolter shots are saved, how many models are removed. I say 1 model is removed

The reason I say this is because you can allocate all of the AP2 wounds on one model, then the other models will get 3 wounds each so all models have the same number of wounds allocated to them.

Now when I did this in a game last night, I was accused of rules lawyering, and my opponent told me that if someone did this in a tournament then he would hose them on Sportsmanship.

Question
1. Was I correct in the wound allocation? The rules mention nothing about have to allocate like wounds at the same time, and there by forcing you to sread them around.

2. Was it completely unsportsman of me to follow the rules?

The way i understand the wound allocation is that you continue to add wounds across the squad evenly. So in your scenario where you had 3 models and 9 wounds that to me means that each model takes 3 wounds, now if all the wounds are from the same source you can allocate any wound however you like.

So to me your scenario there is perfectly fine and using the rules properly.

What you did was perfectly fine. As long as you wrap the wounds around correctly, which you did, then it's totally up to you as to what model makes the save against which weapon. Putting three AP 2 wounds on one model is legit in this case.

Thanks guys,

Thats what I thought, I just wanted a second opinion on the matter.

On a side note, I think it is completely stupid that in 4th you would have 3 dead models, but now in 5th you can actually have less causalties from the same wounds.

Another thought, does a unit have to fire all weapons at its' disposal.

Using your example, after firing hitting with the three wounding AP2 shots, I'd consider stopping shooting. I know that you must fire the maximum number of shots from a weapon, eg heavy 2 must fire 2 shots not 1, but do you have to fire at all?

On page 16 it mentions you can choose not to fire with certain models as some might only have one shot weapons as an example. You have to declare it before checking range.

killmaimburn is dead on, so in your example, AndrewC, you'd be past the point of making that call since range is checked and shots are being fired. Plus, as this post has shown, with wound allocation being as it is, you want to dump as much firepower as you can into a unit since they will be putting the wounds where they like.

So bearing in mid that I don't play SM. So Im going to change it to Tau.

I have a generic suit (can't remember the name) PL,MP,MT. There are two SMs at 12". Can I declare that I am only going to fire the PL and not the MP even though I have the ability to do so?

Yes you could, but you could not fire your MP at another target or come back ot shoot it later...I don't really see the point because you have no garanty that the 2 PR shor would hit...The law of average means you'll have a very annoyed marine gunningand assaulting you after.

But yes it is possible to do so.

To add to what Boneguard is saying, you just have to make sure you declare you're not firing the other weapon BEFORE you check the range.
