Default I hate kill points

Yeh the title says it all. But I had an idea. With Kill points maybe write it as how amny kills you get over the total amount of units in your army. Then the percentage works out who wins. It works a bit easier for hordes and makes it more balanced. What do you all think? Sorry if I posted this in the wrong board.

Hmm, not having played kill points yet (all my time is taken up playtesting our gamesday board) I do think thats a good idea.

Would it not swing the other way, in balance though? Just a thought.

Well why don't we work out some averages. If someone is willing to find out the average amount of units (including transports) for each racem, we can work out if it ends up favouring the horde armies.

To be honest I never saw the problem with simple victory points.

If I kill a Space Marine, I get 15 victory points.
If I kill a Spinegaunt, I get 5 victory points.
If I blow up a Land Raider, I get 250 victory points.

They've got a perfectly adequate points system for selecting forces, why can't they use that for victory points?

The old VP system does make more sense on balance. Kill points is a bit broken for some armies.

Kill points are awful, period. Anyone playing a more specialized list gets slaughtered by them. Basically, you win at kill points by making huge, durable units.

Here are some kill point problems I've had so far:
1) When fighting Orks, you get 1kp to kill a mob of 30 boyz or 1kp to kill the team of 5 burnas. It's the same either way. So you can either play tactically and take out the killier target first (the 30 boyz) or play kill points and run around "sniping" the opponent's small units to try to rack up as many points as possibile.

2) Insanely durable units are still only worth 1kp. So that unit of 20 Plague Marines? Yeah it's worth the same as your unit of 5 Space Marine Scouts....but much harder to bring down.

3) When playing against specialist lists (such as termie heavy marines) there is an imbalance with Kill Points. If you simply spam durably and hard units (like Terminators) you can quickly minimize the number of kill points that can be scored against you while maximizing your firepower.

So kill points, in my opinion, favor two extremes of gaming. 1) Huge units which are insane to kill. 2) Small, extremely deadly units that can quickly rack up KP's while minimizing the overall kill point count of your army.

I suppose that maybe in a tournament, it could balance against the "troops only" scoring point rule. But after a few 5th edition games, I'm unconvinced.

But playing with random missions kinda means you occassionally have to play annihilation.

lol. You'd be in trouble in a tournament Zenny!

Opponent: "Okay, the mission is Annihilation"
Zenny: "LALALALA, not listening!"

lol, I'm just messing mate. I think they got rid of VP because it took ages to work it out and was too hard for younger players. But kill points was the other extreme. I think it might also be to counter armies that take min. troop choices in order to have more scoring units.
