Default snap togeather and the future of 40k

there have been a few snap togeather guys come out latly (small packs of guys, and assault on black reach) my question is, is the game headded in that direction? 5 or 10 years form now will that be all they have? it would be a big blow to the converters out there, but i could see it happaning :-[

what do you think?

I don't think they would replace everything with snap models. I think their main intention is to make things easier for the new players.

Though if I turn out to be wrong then I won't suffer as my army is already too big for me to consider buying anything new.

I imagine, like Zenny said, they'll do really well with beginnners and folks who don't want to convert their armies, but it wont be a big part of GW's overall sales. And the recent advances in the mini manufacturing technology suggests a trend towards lots of detail with lots of options, ie. just look at the new plastic sets being released, they're loaded with goodies.

On the other hand, if they sell pretty well and if GW hears of some good feedback, then it'll become more prevalant.

As far as I have always understood it, those snap-fits are for:

A) beginners who need the simplicity.. Younger kids and the like I would imagine. Though, to be fair... way back when I started
this hobby I didn't need 2 piece models to start my army..

and

B) Boosting the size of squads you already have. Like if you have a squad and only need 5 or less to fill it out, they are a fair option.

At Games Day Chicago this very question as asked in the New product seminar. The GW rep anwser was the Black reach models snap fit because it is designed to get new players into the game as fast as possible. The have no intention of making all sets snap fit. They even said the appeal of the game is the ability to customize your models.

True, but by removing the Bits order (granted it's back but aside from Space Marines the choise of bitz are very limited). Odd how you sometimes have mixed signals.

The reason that the bits stopped was because it was very impractical and costly to keep all those bits. It was not stopped to discorage customization.

I would agree. There's always Bitz stores to get the bitz, I guess its more economical for them instead of GW.

I know but it is still very annoying...especially if you look up fro 6 krootox riders...metal bits are hard to find (and now it's moot).

It doesn't discourage converters, but it does make our live more difficult.
