Default Are priority tests gone?

I've been playing a couple of games of 5th at home to try and get used to the new rules, and i've been reading the BRB, but i can't find anything on priority tests, in 4th edition you had to shoot the enemy closest to you, or roll a leadership test to target another unit, representing that only well lead troops would fire at a different target than the one right in front of them. However there doesn't seem to be anything about this in 5th, have i missed it or can i know shoot at whoever i like so long as i have LOS even if there's a enemy unit 2" away?

No more target priority tests.

Good and bad points for that rule...

Good that you can shoot whatever you want (even an IC all on his lonesome), bad that you can't use your units to distract more squishy ones. :P

Unless it specifies in your codex, examples would be still needing to roll Leadership for Target Lock.

Remember Target Priority might be dead in 5th edition book but codex rules still have priority (no pun intended) over the general rules.

So needless to say, I have been rolling leadership with target lock in 5th edition regardless, but over all you do not need to roll if your entire unit wants to shoot at a unit that is not the closest.

While this would normally be true in most cases...This isn't a codex rule, since you are told to take a test, you take it. BUT, if that test doesn't have rules (find them in the Fifth edition rules for me, you can't and older Editions are over-rided in favor of the new ones), then you don't make one obviously.

Black Templar 1: Shoot the guy in the front!
Black Templar 2: But the guy behind is more deadly!
Black Templar 1: I dont care! Shoot the guy in the front!

That is to emphasize that BT still must take Target Priority Tests, at a -1 to their leadership.

Black Templar 2: BUT THEY'RE ALL XENOS!!!

I'm still waiting for them to let us shoot one guy and charge a different one if we kill the first. That rule annoys the heck outta me.

I think that's more of a game balance issue than anything approaching realism. I wouldn't want it for the sake of my Tau though, unless we were brought back to our deserved 4th edition strength...

True, I need to check the tau codex to see if it actually has the target priority rule defined in it, because if it does then we have to continue to adhere to Target Priority for target lock.
