Default optional close combat attacks?

Winning close combat too early in 40k is now deadly, so....

1- If I have special close combat equipment (ie Pistol, power weapon, star lance, etc.) can I elect not to use them and use my basic profile?

2- If I charge, can I elect some models to attack with only part (or none) of their allowable attacks? (Can I have my marines swing 0,1,or 2 times on a charge?)

1- Yes, from what I can tell you can just use a base CC weapon if you have one instead of any special ones.

2- Not if these are less than the number you normally have in your description.

Yes as long as your army equipment options allow it, but you only get an additional attack with the powerfist if your other weapon (in CC) is also a powerfist.

I guess the reverse isn't true though, if you want to get a extra attack just don't turn on the fist...Makes sense as slow as the thing would have been.

So that means with my Space Marine I could strike at both I 4 with regular CC attacks AND I 1 Power fist attacks?

No. That's not what I said.

You can use your normal profile for powerfist attacks at I1 (+1 for charging, maybe) or you can deactivate it and get an additional attack at normal initiative (but lose the abilities of the fist).

Ok, the second one makes more sense...no matter how awesome it would be to throw 3 Attacks charging PLUS 2 Power fist

Yeah...you choose what weapons you intend to strike with before any blows are struck. Unless you state otherwise, it'll be assumed you use the biggest one available.

And of course, it's an either/or thing. You cant split up in any funky ways.

The chaplain with powerfist is a good example for this. You may have all his attacks as either power fist or crosius arcanum, just all attacks are the same type and at the initiative of that weapon.
