Default Dawn of War = 40K???

I've noticed(imagined?) some ways that 40k is imitating Dawn of War rather than the other way around. Tell me if you think you agree and come up with some of your own.

-The heavies aren't the last model to die. (in fifth, we'll see a lot more HW's die early)
-In DoW Tau Tanks are slow. (in fifth I expect to see them moving 12" a lot less)
-Troops count as scoring (this one is a bit of a stretch, but in DoW, vehicles, builders and some elite infantry can't capture strategic points)
-Flash gits (for orks) are nobs. (I think DoW did this first. At least, the ones in DoW look big and nobby)

There were some more, but I can't remember them at the moment.

Think about it, if the heavy tanks die first in dow, what would the point of them be?

We spend all this time upgrading the tech tree, to get a baneblade that dies in 15 seconds? they need to make them last longer for the effort put in. That is to mention that light tanks often die in 5 seconds, however they are quicker to rebuild.

Troops secure objectives, there are more of them....

I'm sorry, I guess I wasn't clear. By heavies, I meant heavy weapon troopers. In 4th, they're pretty much the last to go. In DoW, they die in a seemingly random order. In 5th, I expect HW's to die a lot sooner than in 5th.

I guess your point is another similarity. Vehicles will take longer to kill in 5th, kinda like DoW...spooky.

heres something you made me think of about 5th ed.... Heavies aren't last to die... it says that other models can pick up the heavy weapons... so really it once again don't matter who dies other than sergent.

And then there's this supposedly new "Dawn of war" scenario.

I hope they're not trying to combine them. There's Dawn of War and there's 40k, they should not go together anymore than they already have.

hold now...it might just work.

DOW was a success in itself, if one or two scenarios gets introduced whos to care?

in the end, we can hate/like or make our own. So let them have it.

This is an interesting debate. The Ork book is a very good example of this. Mega Armoured Nob units, Tankbustas all armed with rokkits and the aforementioned Flash Git thing. For a while one of my friends believed that they were going to include rules for a squiggoth due to the same line of thinking. I really wish that one had actually happened ;D

Check out the "true to real life " mod on dawn of war.
It uses fast attack choices as well as only having 3 elites.
The vehicles are also more vunerable to heavy weapons.

That sounds pretty cool - is it available for Soulstorm?

I haven't heard of that mod. I'd reccomend the Dawn of Warhammer 40k mod, only for Dark Crusade at the moment (though a Soulstorm version is in the works). I made a post about it a few weeks ago, here. It does much more than just add Force Organization limits and makes Heavy Weapons better, but even adds tons of very well-done models for units that were missed in the basic Dawn of War.

Interesting topic. I can imagine them doing it as a marketting ploy, knowing new players will want to see the same units they used in the video game. I can't imagine such extreme things as the Troops-being-Scoring, or the slow-down of Skimmers, having anything to do with DoW, though additions like Flash Gitz to the Ork list seem much more likely. The only problem however, is that these changes will be out of date in a few months when Dawn of War 2 is released, which is going to be vastly different from the original game.
