Default BS/WS 5 and re-rolling

Are there any merits on giving a unit who already has a WS/BS 5 a gear to let the unit re-roll for hits? I need some opinions here. Thanks in advance

It helps when your plasma pistol overheats.

Other than that no, as the chances of the gear earning its points back are slim.

For BS5, I think there are cases where it might be useful depending on the number of shots he can put out. for example, a Tau commander who can put out 4-5 high strength shots benefits a whole lot more than the lone boltpistol shot a space marine captain can put out.

The importance of the shot should be taken into account as well. For example, it might be a lone melta shot against an important vehicle. If it took a large amount of manouvering or sacrifices to give your character a chance to take this shot, sometimes even a 1/6 chance seems like bad odds.

And for WS, rerolls to hit are always good, regardless of how skilled your models is.

Yes, close combat re-rolls are always helpfull, cause there is no telling if you will run into Tau or into genestealers.

Can you? I thought the codex specifically capped the Target Array.

The new edition has BS higher than 5 now, Khanaris. I think that's what he meant.

I am aware of that, but I still thought the codex itself had a cap. Same thing with Markerlights. Unless they FAQ it, you can't use Markerlights to go above 5, even though there is now a reason to do so.

I would always give the gear, As think about this; without the gear you have a one in six chance of failing the shot, of coure with the gear this chance of failure is grealty reduced to 1 in 36 chance, and as it has already been previously stated,re-rolls to hit in combat are always good.
