Default 5th edition - what do you think?

With the 5th edition rules just on the horizon, and most of the changes known to everyone, i was wondering what everyone thought of them. From my experience most peoples comments seem negative. But doesn't this always happen? Everytime games workshop release new rules or codexes everyone starts to wine! The trouble is most seem to just focus on the negative aspects that the rules will have on their army's. Personally i like what i have seen thus far, the game will run at a faster and more bloody pace. >
Anyway what do you lot think?
And is anyone else tired of the pessimistic attitudes of others? :

Do not want.

In all seriousness though, bring it on. I didn't play long enough to really get a grasp of 4th edition anyway, and the book looks awesome. Lots of new content. Hopefully the rumors are true and GW is also going to start doing business better as well.

"The only constant in our universe is" blah blah blah...

I'm liking some of it,

The new LoS rule is terrible though, so complicated it's untrue. Vehicle rules I can live with, everything else is fine too, just the LoS.

Bah I plan to play tournaments so I have to go by the new rules, I'll get used to them, and 4th will fade out of my mind like 3rd did.

Mixed reasctions really.

On one hand, I'm very apprehensive about true LOS(nitpickers will have a field day, not to mention the prospect of people modeling their bases to get advantages).

The new wound allocation rule is just astonishingly stupid, at least if what Wargamer says on News and Rumours is right.

The Cover Saves are going overboard. The reasoning behind it is unacceptable to me. Making a "to hit" modifier would have been a more representation of that concept.

On the other hand, the Run option will make an interesting change, possibly making some moves more tactical while not having wasted my Shooting Phase because I moved so I can't fire my Devastators.

The Rending nerf is necessary, it meant some units were ridiculously effective(Harlies, Genestealers, Assault Cannons) which led to some unfair strategies(Assault Cannon spam, Flying Clown Cars of Doom). And considering most units that had it had a high Init, led to some ridiculous Combat Phases.

The Troops=scoring is a good rule, on the whole. I kinda feel it's silly that my Assault Vets can't hold an objective, but I admit that it's necessary so we see armies that are more in keeping with a real army - lots of "grunt" troopers with some specialists thrown in.

The troops thing is why I'm going to switch to IG

Just look at how many scoring troops units they can put on the table!

I will have to agree overall with this comment

After playing several dozen games using 5Th Ed. I can say the following.

The No Retreat rule bones any unit that automatically makes their moral save.

Hoard Armies are going to be a powerful theme due to the victory conditions.

ATSKNF has become the most important element in the survival of Space marines units.

The smurfs are the least effected by the Rending Nerf, which ironically the Nerf was supposed to the fix because of the Jesus Guns (Assault cannon) being used.

LoS, needs fixing. There are too many ways of taking advantage of the system.

5Th Ed is stupidly fast. Game mechanics are based for sale to a younger audience(IMHO) as more and more under 12 years old are harboring the GW stores(as far as I have seen of late). But there is a problem as I will state in my next post.

I disagree as it will lead to hoard armies as a whole. Hoard Armies defeat the purpose of making the game faster. Sooner or later you are going to have to bulk up your troop choices just because Armies like Nids, Orks, IG, Tau, (kroots will do well in 5th Ed) are going to out number you in . This is the main reason why I am bulking up my Daemon Army with as many troops and still have a cohesive
army list.

GW's approach for Smurfs (like DA) are going to be able split their troops into smaller but still scoring units. But in doing this is for the Smurf army to bulk up their troop choices to the Max.

5Th ED. Playability is simple, it can go fast, depending on what army you play, but it is still half baked.

I don't want to break up a discussion in progress, but we already have a thread over in the news/rumour board for 5th edition discussion so I think I'm gonna have to break out ye olde padlock
