Default Fifth edition end of mankind?

"According to the Games Workshop website, the arrival of the fifth edition will herald a new era in the history of the Warhammer 40,000 universe; the "Time of Ending," where the Age of Mankind is finally drawing to its end" Quoted form wikipedia if this is true whats your opinion on it? Rements of mankind fighting gurilla attacks, though we are probablly a few editions away from that, but it could end up like that.

Hmm... short answer... no.

Long answer... all games need a human aspect, there's always a load o' people who want to play the valiant guys who are in the army and have to kill everything that attacks them and who also have good old, bad ass tanks. GW would lose customers if they ruined IG.

Q & A at Baltimore Gamesday:

To make a long story short, Jervis and the crew have no intention of giving the timeline any progress. It will remain the 41st millenia forever. They are expanding on the 10,000 years after the Horus heresy and such, and revisiting-exposing more fluff for all races, but won't move on to show what will happen in the future. We'll never see it get to this point.

Besides, WARHAMMER: 41,000! just doesn't have the same ring to it :P

Damn. And here I thought that we were going to start seeing some friggin' awesome factions being thrown around. Space Marines cutting out swarths of space to protect what little inhabitants and geneseed they can. Gaurdsmen and Imperial Navy forming confederations of planets to stave of the endless tide of Orks, Dark Eldar, Tyranids, and Necrons. Tau progressing further into technology and discovering FTL travel, making it possible to reach all parts of the old Terran Empire.

They could have done so much with this...

It may still happen. Jervis is not going to be at the reins forever. The changes just make it clear that the current era is not just a time of stagnation. It is actually darker than we had previously thought.

I would love to see different human factions that aren't chaos corrupted lunatics, but GW has made this pretty much impossible as warp travel is so hazardous without the guidance of the Emperor. In short, mankind cannot exist outside of the Imperium.

Mankind does exist outside the Imperium. It exists in Tau, Chaos(there are Chaos societies, but I'd imagine they're organised along the lines of sects), there are even humans beyond the Astronomicon (though this is slightly dodgy - human colonies were set up all over the galaxy during the Dark Age of Technology, many could not be recovered as they were beyond the reach of the Astronomicon).

Outside of the protection of the Imperium though, human worlds are easily destroyed or enslaved.

Unless they're based in Tau territory, in which case they're protected fairly well.

Or in the Eye of Terror, where they're chaos worshipping heretics, bu still human(though probably horribly possessed and mutated).

Until Mr. Johnson and Mr. Kelly are completely removed their hands on creating anything unique, it will be same as usual from GW.

From a solely business perspective I lay complete and total blame on those two on how financially stressed this company is.

There was no reason for GW to cannibalize itself (from dismantling Saber Tooth Games, business practices from Forge world) the way they did.

There is no "quote" End of Mankind.
It will be business as usual.
And That! is what I worry about.
