Default Ebay purchasing question...

Just a quick question about something I am noticing on Ebay.

- I often see models sold "on sprue" but without a box. With the seller advertising that they are selling everything that would normally be in the box. From troops to tanks, whatever. My question is:

Are these guys most likely selling factory rejected sprues or do they have a sweetheart deal with GW to sell in bulk? I keep seeing them with no reserver, so I am wondering how they are getting away selling at such low prices. I am leery of bidding on one of these when it seems fishy to me.

-My apologies to the MODs if I'm in the wrong board here.

My guess:
A battleforce is usually around 40% off of retail, depending on which battleforce it is. They probably buy bulk deals like battleforces and megaforces break them up and sell the units individually. They may even have a retail store to get the items from GW at cost, then sell online to make some additional money.

Some of it has to do with GW internet policies. It is difficult for retailers to sale as "New in Box". If the box is opened then its a "second hand" sale which GW has no control over.

Also removing the Box can help lower shipping cost.

While not having bought one of these deals, I would have no problems with purchasing one. I am 99% sure they are not rejects or seconds from the warehouse.

Also O'Ca'rees can be correct.

The starting prices usually rise up to at least 20% off of retail prices. If you are lucky you can get 30%+ off on ebay. I always aim for 30% off (price + shipping, mind you), if it goes above it, its not worth it, as you can get it cheaper elsewhere. You're a sucker (imo) to buy anything for the msrp (merchandiser's suggested retail price, ie, full price).

Yes, Pretty much. I've bought plenty of these 'New in sprue' sets and never been dissapointed. As for if they contain what would've been in the box, most sellers are honest and either tell you what is in the lot in the description, or will tell you if you ask them. You shouldn't have any problems.

Thanks,

Cool that all makes sense. The battleforce angle especially, I hadn't thought of that. Time to get that Defiler and Rhino I've been watching.

there are a number of reasons. However it could be to avoid the dreaded remove image because of IP.

If you think its a defect, just step away, but feedback is always good to check, I usually like to see 300 and over. In addition just ask!

Selling something "on sprue" is also sometimes done to save the buyer money. Without the box the resultant package will be less bulky and thus shipping charges will be less.

Plus, the boxes can be damn useful for scenery purposes

Also, sometimes people get stuff in battleforces/army deals that they don't want, so it goes on eBay as "new on sprue". :P
