Default What's Your Army's History/Background?

Hi everyone, I noticed that there weren't any solid threads for army backgrounds/histories posting. Sure, there are various threads having somewhat to do with personal armies, but not so much on army backgrounds.

Basically, this is a thread for you to post information about your personal army.
Just an easy step by step introduction, if you don't know how you're meant to start posting on this thread, it would be nice if you could include these things in your post.(remembering, you don't have to always post your own army history, you could simply reply to someone Else's post, if so, ignore this
  • Army Name, basically just what you call your army; how you want it to be called.
    • Army Leader, the name of your army's general, commissar, ethereal, special character, or even a council of miniatures you have to lead your army into battle; the HQ/Special Characters in your army, maybe even some background on them/their characteristics.
      • Army History, what historical events really outline your army, define your army, glorify your army and where did your army come from? And your army's motto.
        • Army Character, what kind of Tau, People, Eldar, Orks etc. are in your army? E.g, are they all ruff brutes, bandits, purists or even a bunch of hippies. Whatever your army is like, post it here.
          • Army Grudges! who have your army had enough of? This is place to put all your anxiety filled hates and scorns. Bunch of sleesy Eldar giving you a hard time? Tired and sick of those nasty little grots getting up your nose (and possibly other darker parts of your body where the sun don't shine)? Then let us know about it! Hit those little buggers right where it hurts.....On this thread! Kill their public image! ;D
Please note, I'm not being biased to the Eldar or Grots, they were simply, just an example.

            Have fun!

            Here's my Army Background.

            Army Name: The 'Shadowsons-Moonlight'
Army Leader: If not already obvious, Shadowsun
Army History: Sons of the glorious Commander Shadowsun, my army is said to have been 'blood bound' to the commander, through the Kroot Binding ritual. The Shadowsons are pronounced as the 'spear head' of the 3rd Sphere Crusade, often found at the very heart of mishaps, fighting endlessly against swarms of enemies to The Greater Good.
Army Motto: "Moonlight shines apon the guilty and the innocent alike. Moonlight burns the enemies of the Tau Empire, and by their deaths they deny themselves the liberation that is only to be found in total surrender to the Greater Good."
Army Character: The Shadowsons are Purists of the Tau Empire, who see that the only path of unity and peace of the entire galaxy lies past the limitations and narrow minds of the enemies of the Tau Empire, and only through annihilating these enemies, shall the galaxy be truly united under 'The Greater Good' of the Tau Empire.
Army Grudges: Well basically everyone that doesn't comply with The Greater Good.

Sounds like a good idea. I look forward to seeing a Marine sheet.

Army Name Dead Wind HUnter Cadre
Army Leader Shas'O Fi'rios Mont'sha
Army History Mont'sha's army excels at fighting Orks and has spent much of its time hunting Ork infested Inperium Hive worlds. As Fi'rios was a 3rd Sphere sept, the Dead Wind Cadre patiently waits for another Sphere of Expansion in which to prove themselves.
Army Motto "Few things that die rise again. Among them is the Wind."
Army Character The Cadre specializes in using Kauyon lures of weak initial firepower, before bringing hidden guns to overwhelm the commited and unsuspecting opponent. They opperate on the fringe of the Tau Empire, and the edge of Tau doctrine, but their successes can't be denied in service to the Tau'va.
Army Grudges Orks, and the Black Shamrocks chapter of Space Marines.

And my future SM chapter:
Army Name The Stormhounds
Army Leader Chapter Master Messor Caninus
Army History The Stormhounds branched off from the Space Wolves chapter millenia ago. The exact circumstances are lost in time, but during the reclamtion of an Imperium Forge World, the Chapter was driven off world with such force that an entire company was abandoned along with the rearguard. Who these foes were is known only to the highest members of the chapter. Trapped and completly cut off from their brothers, the single company rallied the civilian populace, and administrators of the capital city, eventually turning some of the planets powerful manufacturing facilities to the production of equipment suitable for Marines, all the while staving off an invisible enemy. Using fresh equipment, the Marines droveback their enemy. To where, none know for sure. Some believe that foe still exists beneath the planets surface, which explains in part why the planets manufactorums have turned it into a veritable fortress, nearly impossible to land on, and completely unthinkable to cross on land. The rest of the planets factories are now almost completely devoted to producing and maintaining gear for the Chapter that has grown there, much like the Salamanders.
Army Motto 'Caveo Tempestas," "Pay heed the Storm"
Army Character The Stormhounds are as feircly loyal to the Emperor as the Chapter they originate from, and many of its aspects remain the same. They specialize in close quarters, but opt for firefights, rather than hand to hand combat, and they opperate in "Packs" that systematically hunt and destroy critical enemy units and fortifications. Their style of fighting lends itself well to urban warfare, and guerilla tactics, and they tend to rely on speed instead of heavy firepower.
Army Grudges The Stormhounds are loners and rarely ally with anyone other than another Chapter. They have pronounced hatred of the Necrons, whom many believe are responsible for the attacks that trapped that first company on their Fortress world.

Nice.
Question, who are the Black Shamrocks Space Marines? I've never heard of them before, are they a custom Chapter?

First of all my eldar of Kian-Dalthash craftworld

Army Name: The Storm Host
Army Leader: The Storm Prince, Grand Autarch of Kian-Dalthash.
Army History: The Storm Host is constantly changing. Each time it is mustered its form has subtly shifted into a more effective combination. The Storm Host strikes like lightning leaving havoc in its wake. The Storm Host played a prominent roll in the defence of Remi Marinus and a more minor role in the closing of the Medusa V gates.
Army Motto: "Ann Baharr, Baharr eakerun" "Strike light lightning, lightning cannot be caught"
Army Character: The Storm Host is ever-changing. It was an infantry force. Now it is mechanized, this may change.
Army Grudges: Necrons. The Necrons are the only race to have bested the Storm Host at every turn. The Storm Host must adapt. Eventually the Necrons shall fall.

And now my soon to be 'nid army

Army Name: The Ymgir swarm
Army Leader: Unknown Norn Queen residing on the seabed of "Ymgir"
Army History: The world was once an exodite world with no dry land (oceans many kilometres deep) (the exodites lived on huge islands of algae.

With the coming of the tyrannids my craftworld came to the scene and concluded that there were too many to be defeated and so they mucked around with the planet's weather having already evacuated as many exodites as possible. The result of this was that the first bit of water (ranging from a foot or so at the equator to kilometres deep at the poles) froze.

Many of the tyranids were frozen but some survived alive, these were the ravenors and lictors which had evolved to be particularly strong swimmers and to withstand low temperatures (and gives me a good excuse to use lots of them). At the bottom of the ocean lay a norn queen (so there's still synapse). The norn queen started to canabilise the tyranid's biomass adapting them to meet the planet's conditions.

The planet's weather system was so thoroughly mucked up by the eldar though, that even the norn queen's massive brain wasn't powerful enough to make the calculations. As such the norn queen started making specialised rippers to carry signals through tunnels in the ice. The ice had become a giant computer which was then connected to the norn queen by another type of specialised rippers.

Over time the norn queen re-enginereed the entire planet's biomass to have body temperatures so low the frozen water didn't slow down their metabolism. But the norn queen could not leave the planet because its ships had already left, abandoning the planet as a lost cause and so the queen waited for some prey to come.

Finally it did, explorator teams at first sent to find out why a world that should have liquid ice was frozen completely. They provide fuel for the great tyranid machine. Then came expeditionry forces of the Imperial guard, they required more time but eventually they too fell. Finally came the whole armies.

These tyranids had no fleet and were called the Ymgir swarm after a giant in ancient mythology whose flesh became earth. They gave the planet the same name.

Army Motto: A motto is not necessary for the furtherance of the hive mind.
Army Character: Genestealer based with lictors, ravenors and flying warriors, at most one carnifex.
Army Grudges: The Storm Host. It was they who froze the Ymgir Swarm in its tomb and so they must be made to pay.

Wow, nice bit of history there.
Have you ever thought about your ''nid army going up against your Eldar army?
If so, which side do you think will win?

Default Re: What's Your Army's History/Background?

Army Name Avarican 7th Infantry Regiment, Company G
Army Leader Colonel Aurora Munroe (Bretonian Damsel model) Colonel Munroe was named for the star of the planet Avaricum, and is the founder of the Auroran school of war.
Army History The Avarican 7th was one of the first ten regiment founded on Avaricum. The Regiments of Avaricum where not part of any notable conflicts until the 13th Black Crusade in which they gave assistance to the Cadian regiments in repelling Chaos. The 7th regiment has also served on Armageddon, though only briefly. Currently, the 7th Regiment is back on Avaricum, preparing for a campaign against the Tau.
Army Motto "We're All Dying In The End!" Taken from a song from Atreyu, it is an expression of equality among all life forms, because everything dies, except for the immortal Emperor. This means that no monstrous creature, or "superhuman" is unconquerable. "Born to Kill" is another motto of the Vallessian Infantryman, and is often written on the back of their helmets, though this is only permitted among veterans who have actually killed. (This was practiced by the U.S. Military in Vietnam)
Army CharacterThe Avarican 7th is a standard Imperial Guard Infantry Regiment. it is modeled after the U.S. Army during the Vietnam conflict. Due to the presence of the renowned Auroran school of war, Avarican regiments are served by very capable, and well educated officers. Avarican officers shun the typical imperial tactic of"drowning the enemy in their own blood" and prefer flanking movements with armored fist squads, while the supporting armor keeps the enemy busy in the middle. Avarican regiments are strong supporters of the theory that "the best defense is a good offense"
Army Grudges Avaricans hold a hatred for the Black Legion of Abbadon that rivals the Cadians. This stems from the destruction of all but one (the 7th) of the founding regiments of Avaricum during the 13th Black Crusade. The Avaricans also view the neighboring Tau Empire with disgust, due mostly to their ineptitude at close combat, a celebrated art on Avaricum and an important part of all military training.

I daresay my 3rd company Ultramarines don't need one but my others might...

Army Name The Kinghts Of Dorn
Army Leader Lord Ricarus Solance
Army History Part of the second founding from the Imperial Fists they took the noblity of Dorn to the point of reforming in an ancient stlye of fighting, they took to fighting almost entirely mounted. Their honour is everything to them and they will die before failing it.
Army Motto "Without Honour, The Most Skilled Warrior Is Still Barbaric!"
Army Character No squad in the army doesn't have a transport exept terminators and drednaughts who deep strike onto the field. Lots of biker squads and landspeeders, very fast responce force. I Never concede to defeat with them if there is a chance of winning no matter how slim.
Army Grudges "To Hate Your Enemy Is To Lose The Battle" They do not hold grudges but show disdain for anything other than marines and the inquisition.

Army Name The Spears Of Light
Army Leader Lord Inquisitor Advent Cogiloergo
Army History Ordained to the Ordo Malleus at a young age Inq. Advent has become young and forcefull inquisitor who will not spend life willingly, utterly loyal to the imperium and having a debt of life owed by the Knights Of Dorn, he is confident and respected. He holds his private army on board the ship 'Light of the Night'.
Army Motto "Chaos will never succeed, for we will stand against they till the end!"
Army Character An ordo Malleus force mainly consisting of Stormtroopers, white armour to symbolise the purity of soul. (I ain't used them much so the charecter ain't developed to much)
Army Grudges Inq. Advent HATES chaos, it was responsable for his parents early dimise and the death of his homeworld. The God Tzeentch is his main hate as it was his influence which lead to the events in hand.

Army Name Rey'ka Rapid Decimation Urban Assault Cadre
Army Leader Shas'els Rey'ka & Glo'wi
Army History A Hodge-podge of units collected through a bitter urban campaign into what is now a brutal and effective short ranged skirmish army. They're fighting to get off the planet they just landed on most of the time.
Army Motto "Strike Fast, Strike Hard, Leave nothing in your wake but destruction."
Army Character Every unit, every model, is customised in some small and/or significant way. Everything is short ranged. (nothing over 36" in fact)
Army Grudges None yet.

Army Name: Hive Fleet Mjolnir
Army Leader: Powerful Broodlord, Imperial Codename: Thor
Army History A small splinter left after the destruction of Hive Fleet Behemoth, Hive Fleet Mjolnir lurks along the Eastern fringe of the galaxy, threatening the outer forces of the Tau Empire and the Space Marine Chapter lurking in the area, the Barren Sentries.
Army Motto: *HISS!*
Army Character: Not many conversions (it was my first army, give me a break), although the color scheme is very striking. A bright red, yellow, and black inspired by snakes. The army is very hard-hitting in tune with it's name, with my own pet Godfex, Broodlord (who recently mopped up an entire unit if Terminators) and a largely converted Flyrant.
Army Grudges: Necrons, Voir'la Tau Renegades, Barren Sentries

Army Name: Biel-Tan Swordwind
Army Leader: Farseer Emmaniel
Army History A combat detachment of the Biel-Tan Craftworld, this Swordwind is unique because of it's leader, the most powerful Farseer of Biel-Tan. Unlike the psychics of other Craftworlds, Farseer Emmanial marches to the front of war, his Swordwind bloodthirst not fully controlled.
Army Motto: Blood Runs. Angre Rises. Death Wakes. War Calls!
Army Character: Your average Biel-Tan force. Only 1,000 points now, I still have three different Aspect Warrior units. Led by a Farseer that I'm considering making a 'counts as' Eldrad Ulthran.
Army Grudges: Voir'la Tau Renegades, Barren Sentries
