Default Stealth

Ok i have played many armies over the years but recently i have been wanting a stealth feel like an army of assasasins.

Very few ideas for army choices here

Catachan
Chaos possibly
Sm varient?
Darkeldar

Ok i want melee ability and some sniper fire

Fewer models

High damage output but less resilience sounds alot like darkeldar to me aswell but its not the style i'm really looking for.

Perhaps if play with the de list a bit i can find something suitable.

Any ideas here would be helpful

I came up with a list that i belive will do the best to represent this.

Hq - Archite w/agonizer,ccw,webway,shadow,drugs = 191

Elites - 3 squads of 6 mandrakes = 270

Troops - 3x squads of 6 wychs succ w/ poison wep, talismans = 279

Fast - 3 reavers w/ blaster = 85
3 hellions w/ blaster = 64

Heavy - ravager w/ 2xdl 1x des = 110

TOTAL 999

Ok only thing starting on the table is Archite and the mandrakes.

Basically i keep my archite moving twards the enemy if i'm worried about long range ordance i'll pop out a unit of mandrakes and use the 5+ cover save to keep my archite alive but only if there is a threat of being shot at.
i'll always keep 3 of the hidden mandrake models within 6'' of my archite so that when i know something is coming i can deploy them and make my enemy shoot them instead of my archite. a nice 2+ bonus to cover saves will help a bit.

The whole idea is to keep my lord alive which might be tricky but hey he has a 2+ inv save anyways and great combat ability.

Once i open the wwp all hell breaks loose and i'll go right for the throat of my enemy 3x wych squads can hold just about anything in combat and my jbikes / hellions can ethier hunt for armor or help out combat.

Mandrakes hopefully i'll have atleats one unused squad to tie up some enemy heavy weapons.

Anyways i have this army made and i'm gonna test it out at a tourney 2 night probably only 10-15 people but i'll get to try it out.

Scout Heavy Army with Assault or Termy Squads and a tooled HQ, no Vehicles.

This seems your best bet.

Ok i want melee ability and some sniper fire

Fewer models

for SM's, there's always the option of a Raven Guard army, very guerrila/stlealthly fluff(ie: Cpt. Shrike & some marines spending two years behind ork lines, wrecking complete havoc; from the new SM codex ;D)

if you're going for some hardcore stealth, you could always go for making a squad for Kill Team, sneaking aroung sentries, assasanating generals, trying to stealthy eliminate brtue squads, ect, all w/ a kick arse team. great fun.........

I have to say, that's not a strong DE army. You'll probably get blasted to pieces before you can do anything. In game terms, Dark Eldar don't do stealth as well as many other armies. They have no Infiltrators, and they work best as a shock attack force. However, you could try a Kabal force using some Mandrakes supported by a Ravager and shooty Raider Squads all using Night Shields.

Some good stealthy armies gamewise in 40k are (in no particular order):

- 13th Company
- Space Marines with lots of Scouts and/or 'See And Don't Be Seen'
- Biel-tan with lots of Scorpions using 'Stealth' Exarch power, and Warp Spiders
- Alpha Legion (for that matter, any Chaos Space Marine army with lots of 'Infiltrate' vet ability)
- Alaitoc Craftworld Eldar
- Kroot Mercenaries
- Some IG doctrines
