Default Painting

I was just talking to a friend about how long it takes us to paint an army and it got me thinking. What about everyone else, how far along are they? Who doesn't even plan to paint their armies? (I know a few of those guys.)

Oh, for those that paint, how long does it take? I was told that a consistent painter would finish about 2,000 points worth of stuff in a year. However, I think that I will be lucky to finish 1,000 in a year at my current rate.

I sorry, but i will have to say "whats paint" as ive constructed a devilfish and painted it 20% and im converting 12 firewarriors to join that one. Then im making the rest of the 3000p... so... not much.

I'd say mines closer to 75% then 100% (about 80%), even though I'm not a fast painter, as I concern myself with getting the army painted and not with being super neat.

Two out of my three 40k are fully painted and my third requires me to resupply almost all my paints before I continue on. But give of take it will also be fully-painted within two months or so (My second and third army being close to 'Eavy Metal standard)

So I will choose 100% as my answer.

I voted 75%, although I'm a little under that. Even with well over half of my stuff painted I can't field anything for an official tournament because I haven't based anything yet. For what it's worth, Timjim should actually get the credit for my 75%, because without TOMV (Tau Online Monthly Vows) I would still be under half!

Oh, I've been playing for about 9 months, and can field a little under 2000 points painted, or a little over 3000 with all models on the table.

I put mine in as 25% but really, by model count, it's only 21% done.

So much work left to do.

Shouldn't this be in the painting board?

And aren't there like, 2 other topics discussing about the same thing, with some slight variances?

But I would say 1/5 of my army is painted. 100 points of a 500 point army. :P

Ive been active in the hobby in two differnt periods mainly, from early 90's to about 2001 and then from 2006 to now. During the first period i started with Warhammer Fantasy as a teen, High Elves, and i think i might have painted something like 1/4 of a complete army. Then some orcs and goblins, again painting only a few units. Then we moved over to 40k (second edition) and i started with Space Wolfs, which also ended with very few models painted. The last two years of this period i finally got into painting and managed to finish, more or less, an Eldar force, maybe 1500pts by todays value. I also just barely finished a tournament size Dark Angels force and partook with it in my first and only tournament in 2001 and then i quit the hobby for a while. Since i got back into it ive started on an Empire army for Fantasy and a Tau army for 40k. The Empire ive painted about 800pts since 2006 and the Tau almost 1000pts since 2007. But ive also painted some stuff for other systems (Confrontation and Hordes etc) so i havent really been *that* lazy (still pretty damn lazy though). Ive gotten a little more focused of late and fininshing the Tau, tournament size, looks like it might happen at least in time for the autumn.

I thought about that before I put it here.

I finally decided that if it went in the painting board the non-painters wouldn't see it and thus it wouldn't be a true survey of all the players.

I have roughly 80% painted. The key is to use alot of one color. My guardsman's uniforms and flak armor are all catachan green, which means I don't waste time with fancy camouflage patterns (except on the occasional officer or veteran I want to stand out)

the mass production method helps a bunch. Paint the whole unit, not one model at a time. For example, instead of painting one guardsman's boots with chaos black, I paint all my guardsman's boots while I have the chaos black out.

Hope that helps some folks out.
