Default Fury of the Ancients vs Null Rod

We were playing a 2v2 game, Daemonhunters and Tau versus Noise Marines and Vanilla Marines. At one point in the game, the Marines Epistolary came in via drop pod, landing right where he wanted it. The Epistolary stepped out and shot off Fury of the Ancients. The line went through my sniper squad, my Inquisitor Lord, my allies Commander and Bodyguard and a unit of Gun drones.

We were playing a "closed-list" game, so he had no idea that my Lord had a Null Rod. As we went down the line, I informed him that they were immune to the psychic powers and he was about to move on to my allie's units when the Tau player claimed that by hitting the Null Rod, the psychic power is cancelled.

The way it went down in the game was we rolled off and in this case the null rod "blocked" the power.

So my question is, if Fury of the Ancient targets a unit with a null rod, does it just pass over them and continue, or does the null rod actually stop the power?

Oh man, that's a good one!

Looking at the description of the Null rod it says pyschich powers may not affect the character or unit. It doesn't cancel the power. So the fury of the ancients goes through the inquisitors squad doing nothing and continues on as normal until it reaches a combat, a friendly unit or a table edge.

Thats pretty much what I thought. I tried to explain to him that it wasn't like a Collar of Khorne or a Psychic Hood. I guess it was just wishful thinking. Thanks for clarifying.

dont know.

Couldnt you argue that if the fury of the ancients dissipates on a friendly unit. you would then classify that as a nontargetable?

thus if the fury of the ancients dissipates on a nontargetable unit, the null rod would then classify itself as a nontargetable unit?

or is the null rod like a big shield and fury goes around it?

I say the Null Rod would stop Fury of the Ancients. Once the attacking unit draws a line to the Null Rod unit they have been targeted and thus the psychic power is nullified.

The Inquisition rules need updating badly! >

The Rules as Written are pretty specific. The only thing that stops the construct is a friendly unit or a unit locked in close combat. Since a unit with a Null Rod is neither, it just "passes through" without being able to hurt them. But it still passes through.

I can't remember what the rule was, but could a psychic hood nullify fury of the ancients?

Yeah, but a pyschic hood actually cancels the power before it takes effect. A null rod simply makes the inquisitor and his squad immune to the effects of pyschic powers.

Doesn't a psychic hood only take place within a certain range though?

Would Fury go then get stopped, or be stopped as soon as it was worked out it would hit near the Psychic hood owner.
