Default The War Store

So, folks, I'm wondering about these guys. They sell forge world which I thought was totally awesome. But then I did some math and found that, for a Yank, those prices are CRAZY high compared to actually buying it directly from Forge World.

Now, they have other stuff I wouldn't mind buying, but I'm wondering what Tau Online's general consensus is on these guys. I've had them recommended to me, A LOT, but I've never actually seen someone buy from them. :-\

The thing about buying FW through them is that they don't actually get a discount on it. FW doesn't set up accounts for people to sell their stuff like GW does. It's all done directly. So basically, when someone places a FW order with Neal, he orders it in like he was a regular FW customer and then ships it on to his customer. In some cases Neal's cheap shipping (in the US anyway) may actually save you some money, but most of the time it will be the same or more. I think alot of the people that order FW stuff through Neal are doing it'd because if something screws up, he'll actually answer your emails.

As for their stuff in general, they're most excellent, especially for Canadian customers as you can dodge GW's stupidity regarding exchange rates. In the US the shipping costs are very low (becoming free after a certain point) and with a pretty sizable discount. Communication is excellent as they'll send you an email when a) You place the order b) The order has been processed and c) The order has shipped. I've never had a problem with an order I placed with them, but they have an excellent reputation for fixing things quickly.

So would you suggest The War Store for everything NOT GW and FW related? Instead Gorilla Tactics for GW?

I think they're just good in general, GW or not. All you really have to do with the (non bitz) GW stuff is call or email them about it, so it's not that much of an inconvenience. I've never dealt with Gorilla so I don't know what they're like, but I've been mighty impressed by my dealings with the Warstore so far, so I'd probably recommend them for pretty much whatever they carry.

I've ordered from them before, and It's been great every time. The thing about forgeworld stuff from them is that it is pretty much always more than ordering straight from forgeworld, unless your CC charges you some sort of conversion rate, which can be a headache. The warstore takes paypal in USD which is much more convenient.

No, I did the math. To get a DKoK Grenadier Centaur from The War Store costs $95 + $4.95 shipping and handling. While to get it from FW, it's $87? or so, including the shipping and handling. I have the 2007 catalog and the USD prices in there are accurate (for me anyway, and I'm in Virginia.)

If anything, I'd just worry about the time it'd take. I'd hate to order from FW now and have it arrive during/after I move out and then have my parents keep it from me or something.

War store is exceedingly good, especially if you're ordering non GW stuff. They import large amounts of Pig Iron products, from what I hear, so its great to get it from them. Cheaper, too. Just don't use them for Forge World.

Actually, they have these real cheap army carriers for like, $10. I'm going to buy one once I finish my army.

Only problem is that they arn't particularly big. I think you'd want to go with the set of 5 for a whole army, but still, $50 ain't bad. Then again I don't think they're big enough for tanks...
