Depends if they were a best friend or just a random screaming 12 year old, but normally I would say about 3 points over would be my cut off.

Under about 1% of the pts total is usually fine in my group.

As long as we have the same amount, amount itself dosen't matter.

"Damn......I really wanted those Crisis Suits...."
"Really? How much do you need?"
"About 70 points"
"Ok, I'll just add three to my Warp Spider Squad..."

1500 point games quickly become 1750 point games that way. But it's still perfectly fair, and fun is had by all.

We usually allow up to 5, cause that usually means that you didn't add anything extra.

we always do 5pts over or under as our stop of point, but this is only with close friends who don't take an extra few items when they are at 395 to boost them to 405.

I read somewhere on this forum that you are allowed to go five points over in tournaments. Is that true?

No, it is not. Otherwise, they'd have 1,505pt tournaments, not 1,500.

Myself, I do not go over. We pick the points cost, we stick to it. The exception is if we're both a bit over (ie: he's got 1,510 and I've got 1,508) then we'll agree on that. Likewise, if one side is struggling to fill the last 10pts, and I can knock 8-10 off my list, then I'll do that.

Personally I stick to the limit, even if it means being 10 pts under (though usually it's possible to reduce this to 4 points or less... which is fine). That said, I wouldn't kick up a fuss if my opponent was up to 5 points over... it's only a game after all, 9 points or so is hardly likely to represent an insurmountable tactical advantage.

That said, I regularly play against people who decide what they'll be taking on the night and don't always write an army list down on paper. There's a lot of trust...
