Default GW Store Auctions

I just went to my first today... who's heard of them? Who's been in the past?

I found that it was a really fun experience; the store was packed, and everyone was enjoying the auction (even if it was just to watch the perspiration buildup in people in a bidding war).

Two neat things that they did were the staff auctions and "death clock" bidding.

The staff auctions, people bid on staff members; they'd schedule a full eight-hour shift to do nothing but what the bid winner wanted (basecoat an army/paint a hundred Grots/build a suit of Power Armour).

The death clock, aside from being the namesake of one of the Metalist bands to every be Metal, was very intense; they'd hold up a $250 army box and count down ("250... 249... 248..."); the first person to call would get the box for that price.

Myself, I ended up with two Ravenors for $10 (retail $32, a gift for a friend), five Warp Spiders for $15 (retail $45) and ten of the new Ork Boyz plus Trukk for $42 (retail for the Boyz is $40 and $45 for the Trukk).

So, I'm pretty happy with the day .

What a coincedence, my local Gamesworkshop also had an auction today!

One of the staff members was standing on top of a table yelling out prices and whatnot, twas funny.

There was sooo much stuff, lots of fantasy too that no one was interested in. I swear someone could've got 3000points worth or dwarves and the codex.

What I ended up getting was...

10 Devastators (still on the sprues) for $55 (Can)
5 Marine veterans (metal, unassembled) $30 (starting bid was $25)
and 4 Sentinels for my brother (fully assembled/painted) $40

I'm so happy ^_^

Same here, we had one a while back, it was enjoyable, despite the fact that I couldn't get the Flagalents (if I spelled right) I wanted.

Was it the one at the Eaton Centre Dra? I was there yesterday! Unfortunately through the auction itself I only picked up a devastator squad (for my chaos), and 2 Gaunt's Ghosts books. However I did buy the Apocalypse Saim Hann box, the one with all the jetbikes. Twas quite fun.

Unfortunately I should probably keep myself away from the store auctions until after Astro so that funding for my latest project does not get disrupted. However, my past experiences at auctions have usually had me making out like a bandit. I've snagged 3 zoanthropes for the price of 1, 3 sentinels for $60 (sentinels have some great bitz BTW), old OOP Inquisitor material, 6 skaven jezzails for $30 and the ludicrous "buy an old giant get an orc battalion free" deal I scored once.

I highly recommend these auctions. Excellent poorhammer opprotunities

I was actually at the Oshawa Centre on in... well... Oshawa :P.

I heard about the Eatons one first, and I'd have loved to bit on those Steel Legion tanks and wall posters, but the crowd at the OC was pretty amicable (I got invited to a local gaming group), and the OC store defied the "female gamers do not exist" stereotype many times over.

Aye, after visiting the Oshawa store I don't think I can properly hate redshirts again. They're intelligent, they can paint, they have armies that wouldn't be exorcised and torched by the TO community...
