Default Terminators..Whats the point of Initiative?

This came up earlier today...and has put me off terminators forever. Terminators can sweeping advance right.. well people read your rule books sweeping advance is the initiative rolls after combat..so can never annihilate a fleeing foe, and also technially will ALWAYS be run down...not very fair really on terminator assault squads... what does everyone else think?

I do agree but it's also mainly there to see who strikes first in combat, soo in a way ( : ) it is still needed. :P

I could almost see that.
Like if a few Tau went off and they were found and brainwashed and what not. Then, they are made into Tau Marine things. That would be crazy. "And they shall know no close combat skills"~ Xv15 Stealth

They are also not run down because of the ATSKNF rule they just get caught in combat again rather than being wiped out. Hence why should always support your termies. They can hold up an enemy till you can bring force to bear.

Except for chaos termies. They can get run down. Also termies can escape and catch people, they only have I1 when they attack because of the powerfists. For everything else you would use their normal I4.

Hang on, I'm sure I heard somewhere that Terminators can Sweeping Advance now, because the rules for Sweeping Advance are a hell of a lot different to how they were in 3rd...

And so If you squad of ten Termies loses combat for some reason it dies, or in the case of Loyalist ones takes wounds...

Only if the chaos Termies fail their morale check. And if they do, you still roll using their Initiative of 4.

The loyalist marines don't take extra wounds. If they fail a morale check, they fall back, just like everyone else. If the sweeping advance catches them, they aren't destroyed like everyone else, instead, they are just caught up in combat again (so the next assault phase they'll fight as normal). And if the sweeping advance doesn't catch them, they will automatically re-group (even if below half strength).
