Default historic secenario * battle of la drang vally*

ok I was told to put this here so here we go.
if anyone has any questions/suggestions/results with the game please reply. thank you. now read on.

La drang valley.

The battle consists of 6 different conflicts.:
1. Landing zone x ray.
2. The creek bed.
3. The knoll.
4. The ridge.
5. Attack on the hospital.
6. The last push.

40k Background.
The first imperial wave landed and quickly made a perimeter to secure the landing zone for future drop offs. The commander opened fire of three rounds to see if a trap was set, no reply.
He ordered the commlink carrier to tell HQ that no enemy treats visible…suddenly a bullet hit the commlinker in the neck followed by the enemy ran out from the shadows. The battle had begun….


The landing zone is the main field.

The board has to have a 12inch by 6 inch on field-hospital area, where any non-instant deaths end up. Only ten models can be in the hospital, it has a dirt mound/hill facing the enemy and has six trees on the sides. The hospital works like so:
Roll a d-6 for every casualty at the star of every imperial turn and follow the chart below.

D6 result-what happens?
1. Needs more time-stay in the hospital.
2 -4. ‘Welcome back to hell’-joins his unit, if original unit wiped out adds to a new one.
5-6. ‘he was proud to die for the emperor.’-model removed as casualty.

The imperial force needs to start with 600pts and have the last 600 points as reserves; they arrive in the middle of the guard’s deployment area to represent being dropped off in air transports and the imperial army needs at least one heavy weapon team.
The game requires 1200 pints of imperial guard/ and 1400 of evil forces.
The game will take 6 turns and the game is a seek and destroy mission but no deep strike’s or tanks (except one basilisk or one demolisher or one Lennon Russ and only one k of tank from the attackers army) are allowed since the game is made to match the battle in Vietnam, la drang valley.

The creek bed

The creek bed is where the anti loyalists try and flank the embattled imperial force but the imperialist are all ready there to repel the attack.
The deployment for both sides are as normal (12inch max’).
The imperial side has 1000 points and anti imperial has 1000.
The game will take 6 turns and the game is basically a seek and destroy mission but no deep strike’s or tanks (except one basilisk or one demolisher or one Lennon Russ and only one kind of tank from the attackers army) are allowed since the game is made to match the battle in Vietnam, la drang valley.

The knoll.

The knoll is where one platoon is cut off and are being attacked day and night.
The game is a combat patrol mission and uses the night fight rules. The game will take 6 turns and the game is basically a seek and destroy mission but no deep strike’s or tanks are allowed since the game is made to match the battle in Vietnam, la drang valley.


The ridge.

The ridge if the front line of the landing zone where the guardsmen are dug in.
To represent being dug in the imperialists need either:
1. Trenchs
2. Two bunkers
3. Three lots of ruins.

The game will take 6 turns and the game is basically a seek and destroy mission but no deep strike’s or tanks (except one basilisk or one demolishers or one Lennon Russ and only one kind of tank from the attackers army) are allowed since the game is made to match the battle in Vietnam, la drang valley.

Assault on the hospital.

The evil side hav managed to flank the imperial and are attacking the hospital each side needs to accomplish all or at least 3 of the 4 tasks:
Imperial:
• Keep the commander Hal. Moore and the reporter alive
• Wipe out the attackers
• Keep the commlink squad alive
• Have at least 20 men alive

Evil:
• Kill Hal. Moore
• Kill the reporter
• Wipe out every one
• Kill the commlink squad

Both sides must have 40 models. No tanks what so ever! No deep strike. The attackers count as infiltrating.

The last push!

this battle is where the all loaylist players use what they have left from the other battles the have won, as long as its under 2000 pts..The evil side has 3 buildings with two floorsand they use 2300 pts to show that in real life th n.v.a had more men than the americans. The imperial side is allowed only four tanks to act as the attack helicopters( not baneblades Stuart! ).
The mission is seek and destroy.

Fluff!
Why fight them:

Chaos – “Abaddon wants this valley to offer to the four gods and will favor us in his legion.”

Orks-“Oh right then lads! Lets git out there and give those ‘ummies summit to cry a ‘bout. Wagghh!”

Necrons-“blood!!”

Tyranids-“food!!”

Tau-“they do not believe in the greater good so the will perish.”

Elder-“they will suffer the way we have suffered”

Dark elder-“slaves!!”

imperial cults:" those loaylist dogs they will pay for our mistreatment."

kroot-1." the loyalists are strong. it would be good to fight them anit would be a honorable fight. and it will be a grat feast!"

thanks to a helpful jbunny, no i am not sarcastic, i have decided to add to this game.

1. if the creek bed is over run the attacking force joins the the combat on the main bord.(xray)
they will deploy on the right hand side of the defender's army.

2.if the loyalist force at the knoll is wiped out the attacking force joins the battle in the creek bed but if the creek bed has won by the attackers the force then joins the xray board on the right hand side.

3.if the rigde is won by the attacker they join the xray board in the left hand side.

4. if the loaylists win the creek bed they then join the knoll.

5. if the rigde is won by the loaylists they then turn to help on the xray board.

6. broken arrow.
this is declared at the loyalist shooting phase, this has the multi-target rule.
if they lose over a quater of their men the loaylist player can declare a broken arrow( 1 per game)
this has 2 orbital bombardments, 3 volcano strikes( ne palm) and 2 earth raker volleys.

the orbital bobardment has s.9 ap 2 and it is pinning.
the volcano stike has a s.8 and a ap.3 it is melta and when it hits roll a scater dice then point the flame template facing that direction.if a hit is folled place a small blast template.
the raker volley is s.7 ap. 4 and is assault 4!

Actually, sounds very interesting. And, if I understand well, it's basically a kind of campain with 6 seperate battle.

Might steal it from you and try it with my buddies.

As for the foes I could add 2 more to them:

Kroot mercenaries: "Hospital means genetic material right? Score!!"

Imperial Guards*: "Loyalist dogs! They shall pay for what they have done to us!"

*Either a breakaway faction or a group of IG allied with Tau, Chaos, or tyranid (Genestealer Cultist).

But seriously, a Guardsman, I'm willing to bet, could a) outshoot me, b) give me the beating of my life, and c) shove more squad-based tactics down my throat than I'd ever care to digest. Guard are hard, hard men. Whether or not GW's inconsistent, Marine-worshipping fluff keeps with that, mkay?

oeh very nice, i can just see somebody making a elysan drop troop army named "1st Battalion, 7th Cavalry" with ofcourse the right patches/decals.

Sorry I did not realize you wanted us to uess the movie.

I knew after reading the first paragraph that it was We Were Soldiers. While the movie is close to the book, I highly recommend both reading the book it is based on, and doing some actual research.

One thing to keep in mind is that all of these battles are taking place at once. To do it right you would need several boards and several games playing at the same time.

Maybe workout some rules for if something happens on one board, then it can effect the other boards. Which the creek bed was important because if it fell then the enemy would be able to flank the main force and over run the landing zone.

I can see this as an Apoc. Battle using guard against guard, with the attacking guard using Valkeries, or Drop troops.
