Though they were literally giving away stuff when they swapped from lead to white metal.. my friend has tonnes of lead plaguebearers, now they will kill you!

Son of a bitch, I opened this topic thinking "What?! It can't be...", and I was right.
The closest you'll get to a "sale" or deal of any kind are the army boxes (Ork battleforce saves you $19 yay! :  ). Unless your independent retailer feels like doing a sale, but mine hasn't, and I don't think it's likely. They'd rather see GW merchandise gather dust than fly off the shelves at a lower price.

Way back when I first started GW did have a sale shortly thereafter. All stuff was 25% off. We waited in line for about two hours but it was totally worth it, its how I got my first army ever!
However they haven't done that in at least ten years, though they have the auctions every now and then.

The Lord of the Rings contract states that while they stock the Lord of the Rings stock they may never hold a sale event...
Febuary every year our store had a sale ...now they send loads of blisters back to HQ for recycling.

Well there's always Grand Opening sales, although they are rare.
And my local GW is having a "closing down for 2 weeks sale" soon, since they're redoing the store and need to dump the excess stock, the only bad thing about that is, that they've been putting off ordering new items since the start of the year, so there's not going to be that much of a range left. |

At my local, they have some "special" sales, not (EG
25%off, but 10% off orks, to herald the codex, or other things like: stompa competition, $50 for unlimited stompa bitz, then battle them.
