Default Good guys or Bad guys?

I want to find out what races are good or bad.
I know that they are all bad in ways, but what ones would kill innocent people (Bad) Or let them go (good).
This is how I see it:

Tau: Good
Space Marines: Good
Guards: Good
Chaos: Bad
Eldar: Good
Orks: Bad
Necrons: Bad
Dark Eldar: Bad
Tyranids: Bad
Inquisition: ?

I would strongly suggest not looking at the 40K universe in a good/bad light . Order/Disorder is a much better analogy . After all , every race in the game has direct influences from our very own races dubious past and present .

Point in case . Your view on the Tau being good , and using your example of civilian slaughter . What do you think they do to planets who don't sign up for the Socialism that is the Greater Good ? Ditto for humans , a planet has a outbreak of Chaos , so the entire planet is virus bombed , regardless of those trying to resist .

But if a Tau was on your planet and he looked at you he wouldn't nuke your face.

Especially Eldar have no place on any "good"-chart of the galaxy.

They are the most egoistic race I`ve yet stumbled upon. They`d sacrifice entire civilisations just to save a single Eldar live, and all of their machinations and "strands of fate" serve just a single purpose: Their survival. Not the overall good of the galaxy, not the permanent defeat of their enemies - just their survival.
And to ensure their survival, they are completely ruthless.

And sometimes, they even slaughter innocents when it comes to perceived insults - blade storming the colonists of a Maiden world comes to my mind.

Similarly, Space Marines aren`t "good"- at least not all chapters. While I have no problems granting Space Wolves and Ultras this title, other chapters are usually operating with the kids gloves off - just read a couple of the Armageddon-fluff, when Marines just don`t care if Imperial citizens die.

Tau, while the "lesser evil", are still not "good". They can be quite ruthless if someone stands in their way; and once you`re "integrated" in their society, you have little to no rights whatsoever (not that this is different from the Imperium, mind you... still, it`s not what I`d call "good"). Furthermore, they`re not above incinerating cities from orbit if push comes to shove.

Cheers,
-Bone

Yes , because that means I chose/had chosen for me the idea that is the Greater Good . If the offer was refused , I would be dead , along with everyone else from my world .

True but If a tau was on your world Then he wouldn't go on a random killing spree.

A "random killing spree" is a sign of madness, not of evil; and only Chaos would indulge in this.

If you only consider a "RANDOM" killing spree evil, then Nazi Germany wasn`t evil, by any account.

Besides, there are more ways of being evil then just killing people - neutering them (sp?), indoctrinating them, and so on, are also evil.

True, I see Evil as someone who would, if given the choice, Kill a random person hes never met before.
Good is if the person doesn't kill him (Or at least lets him join them or die.)

Which leads me to beleive that imperial guard are very Good as they seem to not like killing people.

Accorind to your opinion, any culture which is solely based on conquest is "good" - and an islamic Jihad would be okay, as well ("Islam or Sword!").

How can "not killing someone because he does axactly what I want him to do" be called good?!?!

It`s EVIL. Every time you force your will on someone else, on threat of death, you are, essentially, evil.

And that`s what the Tau do. Maybe not that direct, but I think Taros gave a quite good example of Tau procedure: Start trade with Gouvernour. As soon as the Imperium notices, the Gouvernous has no other choice than to fully join the Tau, since otherwise, the Imperium would kill him.
How is this approach taken by the Tau "good"? Especially if they afterwards offer said Gouvernour to the Imperium, essentially betraying him?
