Default Revival of interest

I realy like 40k, but recently i have simply lost desire to play, paint, and even think about it. I have an 8 by 4 board in my basement, and two brothers with IG, tau, and Black Templar armies. I have gotten bored of playing them over and over and the nearest gaming club is over30 minutes away. Lately i have just been browsing the forums but i cant seem to revive my interest enough to play, make terrain, or make random lists! I dont know what to do, I have invested so much time and money in 40k, and dont want to see it drain away( like a kid i used to know who spent 165$ on models one day then gave it up literally the next day for YU-Gi-oh : ) I want to keep up my interest, but i just can't seem to revive it. Has this ever happened to any of you? How do you guys 'get back in'? or what helps you maintain interest?

I find quite a lot that spending large amounts of time painting, gaming, terrain building and even reading battle reports and the like, drains me of my interest in 40K. Try spending some time doing something completely different, the cinema, or watch a dvd series. Read some unrelated books or play some first-person shooters on the net. In short, keep your mind utterly away from the whole gaming area and just wait for your interest bar to fill back up again. Pretty soon you'll be wanting to get back into it all over again.

Exactly man, It's very normal, your bored with it at the moment, leave your basement, go out side, get some color, come back in and then get pale as cool-whip,and enjoy it! (Boy I should'nt be talking! ) Just in general take your mind off of it with some other hobbies or something,it happens to most of us almost majority of the time.
You'll come back..And feel a long urged need to buy extremly well done minis..It's a conspiracy to keep you purchasing.. :shifty:

Happy Hunting!

It's happened before to me aswell. In my remote area, there are only a few of us who play 40k and only 1 person who has enough room to have gaming boards of any kind. Even though they've all been in the hobby longer than me, they still only have 2/3 armies each which has made gaming all too similar (considering they all have at least 1 Marine army)

We've actually made plans to put aside the 40k gaming for awhile and possibly try out a Warmachine/Hordes league and/or WHFB.

Take a break. During that break try not to think about the hobby at all. After a couple of weeks you'll miss the things you liked about the hobby.

Other then that shake up the way you and your gaming buddies play the game. Start a campaign for instance. Or link your games, like play battlefleet gothic, epic, and 40k to tell a story.

Or play fantasy. Its really different.

Working for GW in 2004 completely killed my love for the hobby for about 3 years. I didn't touch it at all besides one friendly game with an old friend over Christmas last year. When I moved into my new house though I found out my flatmate was an ex employee aswell, we spent so long bitching about the problems we had had working at the shop we ended up reminiscing about cool gaming moments we had had. Before we knew it we were both buying new armies (and discovering the wonder of having the money to get FW stuff) and we're currently doing the basement into a gaming room so and looking for other players for a campaign I've been writing (which ties in with the Dark Heresy campaign I've been running).

My subtle diagram disagrees with you.
your "subtle" diagram contains Optimus Prime and Proffessor Farnsworth, it's heresy in it's own right!
Any similarities between your reality and mine are purely coincidental...

Try something incredibly complicated - as far as I\'m concerned whenever my attention wanders from 40k for too long I just feel Ive learnt what I can at this point in time.

I\'m a modeller at heart, and when your just painting up and building orks over and over again (like me) things become mundane - theres no spark. Try something new (why do I sound like a marriage councilor?), something that will challenge you. I started my battle sisters, and now whenever my mind isn't trapped on Mass efect (fething brilliant game BTW!) or shooting players on CoD4 that don't understand what the word brains means, my attention goes to figuring out how the hell im gonig to perform all of those conversions without losing my mind.

Just try to do something that will engross you.

I started a wood elf army and played warhammer fantasy for a few months during the nemesis crown campaign. I then later returned to my beloved eldar.

Once in a while people get bored with what they are doing, some worse than others.

But you still have to remember that the hobby is not your life, and thus you are entitled to do other things in your life. That's why there is such ideas as hanging out with your friends, taking up new interests, or just take a simple break. DOn't worry to much about it and somehow it will seep back in , for the better or for the worse.
