Default Favourite special/assault weapon?

must be ranged or have a ranged ability [like certain chaos powers, daemon weapons etc].

mine would be a grenade launcher. that or a sniper rifle [the one that falls between heavy and special].

I'm going to say... Ah!
Melta gun or flamer.
I am currently designing the Cadian 101 'Spitfires'
A regiment that uses nothing but melta and flamer weapons. (Along with the occasional heavy bolter for fire support)

that said, actually, i quite like demo charges, although the image of someone throwing one at a tree and having it bounce back... how else can you explain the scatter? all you have to do is throw it at your enemy... not particularly hard... unless they throw it back.

If the sniper rifles count, then those are mine. Special because I think only one unit can take them in my marines, and that unit being scouts, they are never gauged properly.

If not snipers then I love when I can actually manage to place a flamer template over a mob of <insert flamer effective unit>. Especially when I can get said unit to come down a nice narrow pathway, where there is no escape. Mu Ha ha ha.

or get a squad of SOB with 4 flamers in an immolator with a leader with the brazier of burning donkey flesh... or whatever it's called... when you ditch the the tank all the flamer templates open up to put the hurt on a large unit... too many flamers...[rocks backwards and forwards in chair]

Big Shoota. I just love being able to charge forward while laying down a withering barrage of (poorly aimed) fire. It's cheap, it's cool looking, it's loud, orky, shooty. What's not to love about it?! I just hope that GW doesn't wreck it in the new codex. If that did, I'd cry... Err... Storm GW. Not cry. Real Orks don't cry... ... ... Waaagh!

i wouldn't worry, i can't see they'd ruin it too much. it can't be as bad as the new chaos dreadnought... ooh... the heavy flamer is quite good [some armies heavy flamers are assault, some are heavy... odd] at destroying anything the normal flamer can't scorch.

I'm a big fan of Melta weapons. I like the notion that being close to your target has a game effect.

The new Snazzgun - though it really isn`t a special weapon per se. It has upgrades, a cool look, and makes a lot of noise! - in a word, perfect!

Oh, and of course the trusty Plasma Rifle of the Tau Battlesuits.

Has to be a flamer.

Nothing else has the potential for so much close range carnage.Any of my crises suits with a spare hard point gets one for those 'oh shit' moments.
