Default Pictures in the 41st millennium

Is it just me or has anyone else noticed the pictures spread throughout 40k, I'm saying the sheer mass and size of the armies in these massive battles. Sometimes i think to myself how it is even possible to flank your opponent or even make any tacical decisions with armies that enormous. Also is the cover or protection seen in the pictures. Most of the time these images are just of infantry advancing or holding firing there weapons with piles of body's and nothing to stand behind. To put more into it the fact you can't even take a step back because of the sheer number of soldiers.

examples.

Anyone have anything to say on this topic.

You see i told everyone (not realy) that they where gunna make an expansion for apocolypes. it would be difficult to flank your opponent in them situations but you have to remember not all battles were that big, there was/is little battles that take place with just squads versing each other. Its not allways (as the world war 2 commanders call it) d-day

Isn't the last one like that because it is a fluff based pic of the last stand of the Crimson Fists? We have a huge pic of that on the wall in my local stores Gaming room. But think propaganda(which the imperium is good at) What looks more heroic, fighting face to face like those, or hiding behind a wall firing over the top...Also notice which side is seemingly wining all the time.

The pictures are ment to be heroic, not really showing what it really looks like. They are ment to look awsome!

Yes, pictures are meant to look cool, not necessarily show the right thing. Think about bolters being caseless, and pictures showing them spewing out empty shells.

But seriously, a Guardsman, I'm willing to bet, could a) outshoot me, b) give me the beating of my life, and c) shove more squad-based tactics down my throat than I'd ever care to digest. Guard are hard, hard men. Whether or not GW's inconsistent, Marine-worshipping fluff keeps with that, mkay?

Real men fight in tanks!

If you think about it, these massive battles are everywhere. It would be a pretty messed up place to live in wouldn't it?
