Default Anyone know the calibre of a heavy bolter?

According to codex Space Marines a conventional Bolter is chambered for 0.75 calibre rounds, so I figure a Heavy bolter round is probably twice the size, but does anyone know for sure? Does it say somewhere?

Wikipedia says 1.00 Calibre, but it may take some time to track down the source.

According to the Dark Angels Codex, the bolts are 'fist sized', but unless that's a Ratling's fist, it would make the Heavy Bolter at least 2.00 cal...

I think 1.00 or 1.50 are both more reasonable guesses, scaling by artwork and models.

Sigh.... *Looks at IA2 with a deceptioned stare*

It has autocannon rounds... at least pictured, but no HB ammunition to compare normal boltgun ammo,

Current Autocannons are somewhat of 30mm right? So my money is in no more than the 25mm range
As 30mm is the calibre used on f-22s, so in game terms that's a freakin autocannon.

Bear in mind that Bolt tech does not need to be that large, as it has something that resembles tungsten cores, so that accounts for the low ap, rather than sheer KE.

No, Autocannon rounds are much bigger than 30mm I'd say. Hell, just the casings are about as long as your forearm. Back in the really old 40k armory, Autocannons were the equivalent of a modern tank cannon.

I always thought that the over-sized ac drums from the Cadian HWS where because of the "Heroe" scale, rather than actual size

But yeah, today's HEAT rounds are pretty small, compared to the Vanquisher's haha.

That would make heavy bolters larger than 30mm then...

F-22s actually have M61A2 20mm Vulcan Cannons.

A-10s are the only modern aircraft to fully utilize a 30mm in the form of the GAU-8 Avenger Cannon (and it's pretty much an unstoppable force as far as tank-killing goes).

True, I merged all the things I knew about aircraft, the f-22's rotary cannon, the a-10s warthog and for some reason I thought about the f-35 aswell. I knew i was about to say something like "Hm didn't the f-35 had a larger weapon than the f-22?"

But, as far as keeping this on topic, 25mm is the most-sound calibre arround... for me at least...

Actually just off the top of my head I think some Sukhoi's, the Mirage, and the Mig-29 all utilize 30mm cannons. I'm sure there are more though. Unless you just had poor sentence structure and meant something else (that the GAU-8 was only on the A-10, in which case your statement was useless).

As to weapon calibre. The bolt weapons seem to change general scale size depending on the model so they could be different (although I suspect their common enough STC's...).

Well 0.50 calibre is something like 12.75mm. So a bolter being 0.75 calibre would be about equivalent to something along the lines of a 19mm cannon. So, rounding up, it's safe to assume that a bolter is something like a 20mm cannon. With that knowledge I imagine that a heavy bolter is in the range of a 30mm weapon, thus putting it somewhere in the range of 1.125 calibre. Of course, this all depends on finding a modern day weapon close enough to a heavy bolter in size. 30mm is just my (somewhat) educated guess based on a bit of math and finding something of a modern day equivalent based on the difference between a heavy bolter and a normal one stat wise
