Default Old Vs New

I was reading over in the chaos forums people's thoughts about the new dex and how it compares to the old. Then I had an interesting idea. What if you had the old chaos codex fight the new one? It wouldn't prove anything (IMO) but it might be interesting nonetheless.

Then I thought, to hell with just chaos, let's get everyone involved with this!

So my challenge to all who read this is to play games where two codexes for the same army face off. 3rd Ed Vs 4th Ed so to speak! If you make a bat rep of these battles, post it in the army specific sub forum, but then link to it in this thread so that they can easily be found.

Ah, but there are some caveats here:
What kind of list could/would you play?
Would the list still be legal (or would it have gone the way of the siren-daemon-bomb?)
Is Imperial Armour legal?
Which version?
Does it apply to both versions of the codex?

And other, similar questions

This still seems like a pretty good idea though, and could prove to be quite fun. ;D

My thoughts are that it would have to be normal codex VS normal Codex, no WD stuff (sorry LatD, Armoured company and wulfen), nor Imp Armour.

Whatever versions you want to use can be used to face each other, though I think it would be a good idea if they were from 3rd or 4th, since I think the rules might be horribly incompatible if they were from 2nd or earlier.

I think we'd have to allow siren bombs, chain axes, and other such things that went the way of the dodo because otherwise you'd just be comparing the same stuff. I want to see Ancestorial warriors facing off against their descendants who although they've lost a few tricks, have definitely learned some new ones.

As for the list styles that would face each other, that's entirely up to the players! old Iron Warriors VS Lash wielding khorne *spits at the thought* is entirely fine. Or maybe some Court of the Young King Vs Harlequin army! Whatever the players want to field so long as they are from the basic codex and are relatively compatible.

Be very careful about this thread. Its all well and good to compare and analyze codexes, but "vs" threads have a tendency to get into bashing, and I'll lock it if I see that happening.

You do realise he means have actual battles with the codexes?

This sounds interesting. While I don't play Chaos, I'm interested in seeing how these battles pan out.

The idea isn't just for chaos, its for any army that has more than one codex that works relatively well with 4th ed rules.

I wouldn't be surprised if Wargamer popped in with an Imperial guard list Feat. a Vanquisher or perhaps some Griffons

But as far as 3rd Ed goes I might post a Batrep of Tyranids Vs Tyranids, as I have access to both Codex's and have the means to proxy the 4th Ed army.

I'll try to dig up my archives and post a bat rep of 3rd Ed O'shova army Vs 4th Ed MechTau. (I admit I denied myself to post the bat rep due to the lack of good pics and some language issues, so don't be surprised if I dodge both)
