Default Allies Question

Hey all,

I have yet to purchase either Inquisition Codex, so I don't know the rules on Allies. I just have a question regarding them.

Is it possible to ally with a 'spin-off' Codex, such as the various Space Marine chapters? For example, my Space Marine friend wants to ally with some Catachan he recently aquired, and we'd rather not use Guard with the Jungle Fighters doctrine, but instead the actual Catachan codex, which I have printed out.

Thanks.

Well, considering the Catachan codex is out of date, you can't technically use it.

However, for home play or with permission I don't see why not.

Yeah, it's fine, you can ally with variant lists. The only exception is Dark Angels, who lose their 'Hunt the Fallen' rule when allying with any Inquisitorial army.

Actually there's an updated online version free to download from the GW site.

But they don't have that rule in their latest codex so they lose nothing! Nothing!

If you are using the Inquisiton with guard allies, it has to be codex guard, without doctrines. If using Inquisition with marine allies, it must be codex :space marines, not Codex: DA, or Codex SW.

However, you can use a doctrined guard army, or a sub-marine list with inquisitor allies, no problem. its the best way to do it btw.

I was under the assumption that all Imperial armies could ally. Space Marines cannot ally with Imperial Guard?

I too would like to know this as I might want to include some Deathworld Vets in my praetorian army at first.

No.

Only inquisition armies can ally with other Imperial forces.

However, if you are doing a multiple detachment game you can have a marine force and a guard force.
