Default Apocalypse

Ok, I haven't been up to my store lately and have just heard about Apocalypse. I am jsut curious if it is just a glorified version of the Epic 40k specialist game. Or are they much smaller scale battles?

They are 40k battles of 3,000 points or more, with some new special rules to make sure the battles don't take a week to play out. :

Really, a simple browsing of the Rumours board could have answered your question.

Evan at the scale that they are at I don't think Apocalypse matches the scale of games of Epic. (could be wrong, I'm no expert at Epic).

Come on, they're doing something like a 10,000 point battle for a White Dwarf battle report!

It would still take like one or two days to play would'nt it?

Well, if we use the rough reckoner for planetary assaults from BFG, 2000 pts of 40k is ~400 pts of Epic.

As for 10,000 pts taking days to play: Maybe, but Apocalypse has streamlined a lot of things.

Firefly is pretty much made of Awesome, Funny, and Aww. Sometimes simultaneously. We'd better stop before we quote the entire script.

Anyway, isn't Apocalypse going to be time limit-based? That'll definately cut some of the time off the game :P

But it's a friendly thing too.
You could quite well say: 1 hour per turn, total time limit the weekend. :P

More so time based for game length, rather than turn-based. So say, you keep playing for X hrs, then finish. A 10k point game only went for 4 hours, from what I heard (in regards to a GW staff intro game).

Anyways I think we have a fair bit of coverage in our rumours board. As the release draws nearer, we'll hopefully have more comprehensive details about what it is and how it works.
