Default 40k Printable Streets (UPDATED- BETTER+NEW)

Whipped up a pack of streets for Warhammer 40,000, similar to the strip streets we have seen for the upcoming Apocalypse release. The pack includes:
  • 8 Different Straight Segments (4 feet of unique street)
  • 5 Different Intersections
  • 4 Different T-Intersections (3 way)
  • 3 Different Curves
  • 2 Dead End Pieces
  • 1 Intersection with Imperial Eagle Centerpiece
  • "Weathered", instead of solid, street side walks

Basic Streets 2 (Updated)- 8 megabyte download
Basic Street Pack

As of now, the streets are 6" by 6" per section at 150 dpi, so you will need to resize them in word most likely to 6" by 6" (Paint standards to 72 dpi). They each feature a .5" shoulder on each side of the road, leaving 5" of street room, wide enough for a Imperial Guard Tank easily.

Printing Tips:
  • Paste the sections you want into a document editing program, like Microsoft word, that way you can get more efficient printing. Be sure to leave a good inch for margins, though, most printers don't print all the way to the edge.

  • Print on cardstock. Holds up better and wrinkles less.

If you like these and would like for me to make more, please post here or PM me. Some of the options I was thinking about were:
  • Street Features:
    • Potholes
    • Manholes
    • Sewage Drains
    • Dead Bodies
    • Bloodstains
    • Craters (not three dimensional of course)

    Other types of streets:
    • Gravel Streets
    • Dirt Streets
    • Wide "Boulevards" (11" wide so it can be printed on standard paper )

    Other pieces:
    • 45 degree turn
    • Dead End
    • Cul-du-sac
    • Sidewalks

Note to moderators: If this is in the wrong place, please move it

Note to everyone: If you downloaded the package, post here about what you think, please!

While those may look okay to you, if you want a high quality print with these, you need to be using at least 150dpi (dots per inch) for your images. (resolution settings in Photoshop). Screen resolution (what you're currently using) is 72 dpi, and full print resolution (what most printers print at) is 300 dpi. Sorry if I seem anal about that, but I'm a graphic designer, and to me, everything must use the correct resolution, colourspace, size, etc. (oh, and use A4 paper for your basic size, any country that isn't America uses A4 for some reason, unless this mostly going to be used by Americans :P)

As to the actual design of the roads, it's good, but footpaths would be nice, as most paved areas do actually have footpaths. ;D

A4 = 210 x 297mm
OR 8 1/4" x 11 11/16"

And printer margins are usually ~5mm from the edge of the sheet.

Ah, so if I make Boulevards I'll use that size.

Well, I'm glad for your input and all, but I use Paint. Soooo... yea. Can you change the DPI for paint? Or are there any decent free programs?

GIMP, google it, it's like a cheap knock-off of Photoshop that does a pretty good job.

I've got the GIMP, working on my Vista thankfully, but, call me a simpleton, this is way confusing.

As an [not so good] artist, I am used to the following controls:

Color
Line
Circle
Rectangle
Typing
Brushy things
Eraser

and that's pretty much it. This is a whole new area for me :-\

Ravager if you are familiar with the GIMP and have some extra time, I would be very appreciative if you could write up a quick overview.

EDIT: I'm going to re-do the streets at 150 dpi, per Ravager's suggestion.

I only used GIMP once, a long time ago. So I'm kinda rusty and wouldn't be much help.
It wasn't bad, but since I bought (yes, bought) Photoshop, I've needed nothing else.
There are some really good online tutorials for it though, again, google is your friend.

I use GIMP a lot, I'll do a right up for you some time.

If you need a circle, the easiest way to do it is use the circle select tool and then fill it.
