Default Possible Changes/Additions to the Arena

Kill Team Arena
Choose a Kill Team from the Kill Team rules in the 4th edition 40k rulebook, which will then be entered into an Arena and will play either 1 shooting phase and an infinite number of assault phases, or alternating shooting and assault phases. Not decided on that point yet.

Super-Heavyweight Arena
Essentially the same as the Heavyweight Arena, there is a maximum limit of 200pts.

Middleweight Arena
The same as the Heavyweight Arena, bar the limit of 2 wounds and 100pts maximum.

Other possible changes
1) Due to the amount of ranged Psychic Powers and so on, I may change the Psyker Arena games to be played out as alternating shooting and assault phases.

2) I may limit the Heavyweight entries to 3 wounds.

3) Debating whether to increase the pts limit for Lightweight to 75, but it doesn't really seem right.

4) I might add the new rule to limit saves to 3+ in the Lightweight Arena.



Remember, these are only suggestions. Go through this post and give me your opinion on each of these, whether you're for or against them.

I like the look of all of those ideas except the one about increasing lightweight to 75. Keep it as 50, otherwise it wouldn't properly be lightweight. Besides it would be too close to the 'middleweight arena' with 100 points.

I think that it makes sense to have 50, 100, 150, and 200pt arenas, as there is a 50pt difference between them all. Also limiting heavy to 3 wounds would make super heavy more 'super', which would make it better IMO.

To both of you, on the Lightweight matter: that's one of the reasons I'm kinda against it, it would upset the pattern of 50pts difference for each Arena. Also it would make Lightweights a bit too powerful. At the moment they're meant to be squad leaders or 1 wound characters with 2 or 3 pieces of wargear that make them better than regular troops, e.g. take Exarchs, usually you can fit a weapon upgrade and a warrior power into the space of 50pts.

Also, the general idea behind the wound/pts limits are to make the contestants for...
Lightweight - squad leaders
Middleweight - second in commands
Heavyweight - commanders
Super-Heavyweight - massively powerful warriors

That looks like a good idea to me.

Is psyker arena definitely going to stay then because i thought you said you were considering getting rid of it.

Psyker Changes- I think that each Psyker entry should be entered with an intended bias for its use, either range, CC, or normal, so CC opponents would play normally, shooty guys would just shoot, and anything else would be something in the middle.

those changes are all good .... making the light weight catagory more customizeable would be cool. ( adding the points) ... or keeping it the way it is is cool =)

kill team would be cool ... *i dunno how you woud work it but im sure you will make it tight.

Super heavys will be fun

limiting the wounds to 3 in the heavy weight is cool

I think having Heavyweight, Middleweight, Super-Heavyweight and Lightweight is too many levels of redundancy/overlap. IMHO they need to be more different so they each stand out. Personally I'd advocate dropping one, probably Middleweight, and separating the others more widely. I'd go for:

- Super Heavy, limit of 250pts
- Heavy, limit of 150pts (as normal)
- Light, limit of 50pts


Kill team - maybe instead do 'squad arena', a single squad with point limit of 200pts. No ICs allowed, but Retinues minus their character can be bought (so Incubi without a Lord, Nobz without a Warboss, Cyborks without a Painboss, etc). Either way, I think alternating shooting/assault is a good idea, definately go with that one as it gives shooty a chance. Maybe even do it for all the arenas, the boost to shooty characters would make an interesting addition.
