Default Real camouflage effect on the tabletop

Hey everyone, something i felt like sharing..

I had several games last week at a tournament where my newly completed SM (DA) scouts were deployed in grey ruined terrain, these boys have grey mottled camo cloaks for cityfighting. My first opponent didnt notice the scouts until the very last turn of the game, having even moved his landraider past them twice! I did shoot with the scouts for four turns, but he didnt even notice them when it was time for his shooting phases, and from the pics taken of the tourney, they are hard to pick out against the terrain!

I thought maybe he was blind? But several other games throughout the tourney produced similar results, where my opponents didnt shoot at them for several turns, only to exclaim, "oh, i didnt notice your scouts there" near the game's end. One beardy old powergaming nerd even had the audacity to tell me that it was cheating, in that i was "hiding" my men so he doesnt think to shoot at them... hahaha, sure whatever- hiding in plain view!

This little trick has helped my boys stay alive for many turns where they would have surely been pasted by incoming fire, its something im going to apply to a few more units, as it seems to work ridiculously well... as long as we are playing city terrain that is

Does anyone else have units in their armies that actually have "real" camouflage that works on the tabletop? Please discuss..

Kapow

I have a friend who played IG(He's in Iraq right now), and painted his guard in a camo sceme. Imagine your scenario with entire platoons, that was what it was like.

so what your saying is that oven cleaner can remove paint from plastic models? and after that, you take a toothbrush to your plastic model, and the paint just comes off?

I always forgot to use my Stealth Suits for several turns at a time when I still had my Tau.

They really are stealthy!

Yes my Stealth Suits wear dark green forrest camo. Normally I play on city boards but anytime they end up in the shadow of a piece of terrain or in a forrested or green area both my opponent and myself will totally forget about them. Since the rest of my Tau army is bright metalic blue, when I do a visual sweep of the board to take in the situation my eyes pass right over the Stealth Suits and I fail to remember them. It's irritating but my opponent forgets about them too.

More recently I've painted several other units in such a way and I'm determined not to forget about them now.

I put down fully decorated bases and claim they are my Stealth Suits. I pretend that they are there, and move the bases. They are (incredibly) overlooked, saves money, saves time and freaks the hell out of everyone. ;D

Freak-outs, it's what I do.

The Base colour for my Mechanised Urban Stalker Cadre Tau is black with drybrushed Codex Grey.....

On a cityfight game, I forgot about my two Monats for nigh on the entire game, and my opponent didn't even notice a hammerhead for two turns.

The only danger of actual cammo like that is the infamous stories I've heard about people forgetting models behind when they pack up and go home!

I've never really had that problem(or bonus, whichever way you look at it), though I did manage to get a Tau player to move closer to my Assault squad once. I threw them behind a building and didn't do anything else for that turn with them, he moved his 10 man squad towards them, on the other side of the building, and forgot that he could not shoot though buildings, I jumped over, shot them, charged them, and massacred into his next squad... and then his next squad... and his next squad... But, it was a combat patrol, and there was only 4 squads

I have a habbit of ignoring them. I know they're there but i just think "nah.....they can't do much" so i leave them in the middle of the board just sitting there :P

my tau blend in REALLY well with my forest table, and i tend to accidently lose firewarriors within the trees, so i try to leave the bases un-based.
