I was reading that thread in the Tau Boards about this month's shameless battle report promotion of Dark Angels, and it really hit me how good the old battle reports used to be.



So, putting the crap ones aside, which WD battle report did you really like?

Armageddon. What wasn't there to love? Great armies, not just boring old studio stuff, great narrative, lovely terrain and the whole linked thing was just fantastic. I don't think I'll ever forget that picture of multiple guys trying to hold up a measuring tape as someone finally made use of a basilisk's stupidly long range and opened fire on another table!

I was pretty disappointed by the Eye of Terror multi table game in comparison, I mean, it was still quite enjoyable, but when you compare it with the Amargeddon joint table game I thought it fell short.

I liked the Last Chancers against the Black Legion in WD 240 and the one in my first WD 202, Catachans against Eldar. There could be some others I really like, but these are from the top off my head.

Haven't read the Catachan vs. Eldar one, as for Last chancers vs. Chaos, that was the second battle report I ever read.

Orks attacking Praetorians in an old farm (inspired by Zulu).

It was the first occasion Orks got WS 4 BS 2 (earlier on, they had WS 3, BS 3). It was a 2nd Edition game, but the batrep rocked!

I remember that one. I don't know if I have a favorite, but the older ones were alot better. Not just "look how much you'll win with the new army!" reports.

This is by far the best Battle Report that has ever appeared in White Dwarf. They had a bunch of Special Characters with no special rules, excellent terrain, and an epic and interesting series of linked battles. I pray that they come to their sense and go back to writing of this calibre.

as i am not very old i have only seen some recent ones. my favourite was the 'knife in the dark' kill team narrative in WD 300 which coincidently was my first ever WD! ;D

Which featured armies do you remeber lost their premier battle?


I remeber Dark Eldar Kabal of the Blackheart lost against Biel Tan Eldar.

I remeber Biel Tan Eldar lost to Imperial Fists+Legion of the Damned. (But only after massacre-ing the army and forgeting the objective)


And if I'm not mistake the Necrons lost their proper first battle against Dark Angels?
