Default Fair Way to play 2v1?

Well I just started to play Eldar and 2 of my friends (Slaanesh and IG players) aren't too happy about it. Only played two games so far, and one ended up in a forefit and a victorious slaughter by turn 3. Now they both want to play a 1000pt game against me, each of them taking 500pts, but the only thing is that I don't really know what restrictions should apply. They argue that they should be able to take an HQ and two troops between them; however I see that as an opportunity to abuse their strengths and weakensses (eg, chaos lord for Hq and 2 squads of marines, counting for BOTH players compulsory choices, leaving the IG player to take whatever). I was thinking that they would both have to take an HQ and 2 troops, so what is a fair way to play, for both sides? (Alternately I can play a bigger game with my Tau, but they wanna beat my Eldar lol)

Well, seeing as you have been destroying them with a victorious slaughter by turn three, i think it'd be fair to allow then to take one HQ and two troops between the two of them. Just keep the FOC the same, so they can't have like four HQ's or the like.

I see no problem with it, unless you really don't want them to do it. It is up to you and them after all.

Would there be complaints if they each took their compulsory and you took double compulsory (2 HQ and 4 Troops)?

[i][Edit] Spelling r hard.

Or, you could simply let them take the compulsory but limit them to 1/2's. I.e. only 1 HQ choice. Not too big of a deal in for 500 points - but workable for 1000 points. Also, is the 1,000 point limit because you have a 1,000 point Eldar list? Because at 500 points, they're going to get stomped even worse (being limited to by the compulsory 1 HQ, 2 Troops).

Either have both your friends on a separate FOC, or make 2 500 pt lists yourself (With 2 FOC)

Or say that each friend MUST provide half of the compulsory troops choices (ie: one CSM squad, one Guard Infantry Platoon), and an HQ. then they're free to divide the remainder of the FOC as they see fit. (Could also say that the each must provide one unit from Elite, FA, HS before the third slot can be used)

Or, if they're going to cheese-up there game, cheese-up yours. Fight Edam with Cheddar, or whatever suits your tastes.

Ok thanks guys lol...I guess I will let them do whatever they want because like Emlyn said if they are limited basically to just troops and HQs it will not be fun.

Heya,

I would likely think that your opponents should step up to fighting a new challenge by altering what they're doing wrong, changing up their lists, and coming back at you like they mean business. Eldar are not some super force, like no army really is. The right guns in the right amount make Eldar a goofy holiday. If someone kept throwing a hard rock at your friend, would he continually let it hit him in the chest and head or would he move behind the wall near by? Do they simply not learn and think their lasguns and sonicblasters can destroy every model in the game.... off hope alone? Not to be sarcastic, but this is a wargame. They should be sizing your army up after the first game and saying, "Next time I'll use something like this perhaps...." and bringing you the pain and making you sweat.

That said, 2v1 is rarely fair. If you limit them both in some way, you'll likely just be playing the same game you originally played. I would suggest you play something that is independent and have all three of you play separately but in the same game--no teams. That suggestion, is carnage. Search for the rules. It's a fantastic scenario and is perfect for getting your opponent's lazy bones into learning gear to start playing this game instead of just rolling dice and wishing you had poor units so that they would actually die....

Cheers,

You are right I should probably tell this to them too...its just that they are big trash talkers and actually do think that sonic blasters and lasguns can win every game they play! Also both of them used to cheat too, and they just came off of that like a month ago, so they are having a rough time playing a fair game of 40k right now .

Well, to be frank, why do you pay with them then?

you could easily find knowledgeable/fun to play with and against people at your game store or wherever you go.

I agree with Mal here. Whenever I have two other friends who want to play, we just do a free for all. It's always crazy and you can't really apply normal tactics but it is fun and in a friendly game that's all that should matter. Of course if there are secret pre-game team ups friendships can be ruined and mothers cursed as a result.
