Default Allies Rules

Okay, so how do allies work? As in you get to field two forces (both adding up to the point limit, of course), but with certain restrictions.

I seem to recall it being:

After taking your mandatory choices, you can take one unit from every Force Organization slot in the ally's codex. 1 HQ, 1 elite, 1 fast attack, 1 heavy support. And two troop choices. The only restriction is that your ally's forces cannot cost more than your main force, and that there cannot be more allied choices than main force choices.

And that certain armies have certain restrictions (i.e. no Space Marines and any Xenos, Necrons and Nids can't ally with anyone, etc.).

Any clarifications?

Or am I just drunk?

I've never seen any rules for allies, (hence we had eldar, chaos and necrons all on one side) if you mean team games, the way i've done it is that all players pick their army to the max limit, then you take your turns as a team.

Other than that I don't know

I've seen the rules in the WH and DH codex, but unfortunately I don't remember them.

so what your saying is that oven cleaner can remove paint from plastic models? and after that, you take a toothbrush to your plastic model, and the paint just comes off?

The only official rules for using allies within a single detachment are in the Witch Hunters, Daemonhunters and Kroot Mercenaries lists. Anything else is out, although separate allied detachments are ok.
