I was talking to one of my friends about how many points he wants to play next game of 40k and he said that it doesn't really matter because he goes over the limit anyway. WTF?!? That explains a lot because I have never beat him before (trust me I don't suck) or seen him lose. So then the next day I was talking to one of my other friends and he said that he takes stuff for his daemon prince that he doesn't pay for. WTF AGAIN?!?!? My question is, how should I deal with this? I wanna play fair games, but I don't really want to be a brown noser. Should I just make him type up his army list or get a copy of his codex or what?

Yes, an army list is great for catching cheaters. My local gamestore won't let you enter a tournament without one.

I would request an army list and then check it against the codex to make sure he is recording the correct number of points for units and wargear. If he refuses to give you an army list then refuse to play with him until he does provide a list. Also explain to him why you want to play fair games. Cheating ruins the spirit of the game. If someone is so obsessed with winning that they have to cheat to make sure that they win then the battles against them are probably not that much fun anyways.

Take his soul, add ice, rum, and other things. Goes great with Tau, Eldar, Chaos, Cheeto's, Frito's, hamburgers, pizza and other things :
![]() Now, being serious, confront him, ask for an army list and codex. Make an uber l33t list. Hang him from a ceiling fan by his big toes... peal off his fingernails with hot pincers... hang him... torture usually works... BUAHAHAHAHA!!! Man I get sidetracked easily... But I'd just go with the confronting/army list. And what Ace said. |

Oh that's an easy one...... Cheat back. Seriously if your opponent gets annoyed that you have a fully kitted HQ for less than normal points, then tell him you won't cheat if he doesn't. Make sure you know your opponent is cheating before you take this route though.

just dont play against that person. if they feelthe need to cheat to win, beat him/her to the punch and dont. if you have a problem with him being 5-10 points over, you are obsessing. however if he is bad at math, even on purpose, school him on it.

I have gone against a few cheaters, they are not getting crazy with the extra points just a few points here and their like HQ having a 20 Point item but not written down. hmm yeah sure he had it! This tends to happen alot with Chaos players, sorry guys to pick on you but its those Hyped up HQs with everything but the kitchen sink.
I could not prove it but I have most of the popular dexs and I tend to add up the points in my head. And he was over a bit. It is hard to deal with, besides him being a "know it all". I just do my best with my army list. When I use to play fantasy, I use to tell the younger players add on 100 to 150 points. So I knew exactly what I was up against. It made me a better player. Sure I lost sometimes, but I did it in the spirit of having fun. We all tend to forget we play for fun! Yes it is true, I do like to win but to win against a cheater is sweeter! So my recommendation is to . . . Ask to see his army list, if that does not work, keep track of his points by asking before game. "Hey your HQ looks pretty tough, what does he have?" so if he changes it, now you know. But if you want tell him (the cheater) you will play him 2 out of 3 games but you need to exchange lists and you can not change you list until the third game. That way you play even! Call it an extended skirmish or something and then have some fun. WT

Everyone I play with has a simple rule;
Your army must be equal to or less than the total. If my list is even a point over, I always check my opponent is okay with that. After all, we agreed to play 1,500pts, not 1,503pts... So, yeah, make the guy produce a list. Force him to play to the points (ie: don't give him even a single point over), and play missions.

Ugh,
theres somebody I used to play against a lot that did that ALL the time, against everybody. His 1000 point lists would often be almost 200 points over, not only that but you'd have situations like; 'Ok, your bolt pistol shot just missed for your Commander' 'Oh....that's master crafted' '*Raise eyebrow* you payed 15 points to master craft a BOLT PISTOL?' '....yeah.....I did' 'Right, sure' 'Ok, I've got 3 wounds on your Vet Sarg there. 3's to save' 'Oh...he's got Artificier armour' 'Hmmm' 'Ok, your Vet Sarg has 3 attacks with his Thunder Hammer against that Prince, so you won't be killing him this turn as it's got 4 wounds' 'Oh.....he's got terminator honours' It goes on like that, so in addition to all the magical morphing equipment he had, he was usually a tooled up Chaplain over the points limit too > . I always beat him, so it didn't bother me. But It did when I'd see him beating lots of other people and everyone at the the gaming club thinking he was some sort of gaming god, when if they'd have just quickly added up his points they could see. If I'd chime in and go 'Your about 150 points over there' you'd get '...Oh....my Sargeants aren't as tooled up as normal' But all their equipment would magically come back during the game. Get them to write a list, and give you a copy of it so you can see during the battle what your opponent has, who has what equipment etc.
